A song that can be sociologically studied and analyzed by using and applying relevant sociological course concepts

Instructions:
Begin by identifying any song of your choosing that can be sociologically studied and analyzed by using and applying relevant sociological course concepts.
*Please note that instrumental songs will not work for this project. You will be using song lyrics written about a social problem.
You have to explicitly cite and use any of our course concepts at least four times in your original sociological song research project. One of these concepts must be on of the main sociological theoretical perspectives.
How to construct your original sociological song research project:
Your research project should first describe the song you have chosen, then you will analyze that song by applying one of the main sociological perspectives we have discussed in class; that is, either the functionalist, conflict, or symbolic interactionist theoretical perspectives. You will then apply three other concepts covered in this class, as well.
Be sure to explain to your reader (in this case, Professor Masl) how your song of choice relies on ideas related to Contemporary Social Problems. Be creative and apply one (1) main sociological theory and three (3) sociological concepts to your song research project.
Tell your reader what you think the larger societal effects and implications of the song you chose to study might be. In other words, how does your song of choice make meaning and what does the song’s message convey about the subject matter under sociological investigation?

Research project requirements:
Minimum 3 pages long
Double spaced
Times New Roman, 12-point font
1-inch margins
APA or ASA format
Works cited page required
Song lyrics must be attached as the final page of your paper

Some (hopefully) helpful tips:
Never assume that your reader has background knowledge of your topic. Be sure to define and explain each theory and/or concept so that the reader understands what you are writing about.
Run your paper through a spelling and grammar check!
It is highly recommended to do a plagiarism check prior to submitting your work onto Canvas. You can do a Google search for “free plagiarism checker” to find resources online.
Your works cited should include the textbook, your chosen song, and any other resources you use.
You must cite within the text as well, using parenthesis.
*NOTE: you cannot choose the song “This Is America” because it was used as an example.
