Stereotypes

Read the article, “A Foot in Each Culture: Howard University Law Professor Fights Racial Stereotypes” on to the U.S. Library of Congress Website. Then watch the video titled A Girl Like Me on the American Anthropological Association website. And finally, watch the brief interview with Dr. Kenneth Clark about his famous study. In your post, discuss your reactions to what you have learned and answer the following questions in at least 200 – 250 words: Have you been the victim of any stereotypes? What negative effects do stereotypes have on      intercultural communication? How can we improve understanding and communication      among different subcultures in this country?

Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)

Assignment Description:

Dr. Bartlett is enrolled in a quality improvement initiative and has been collecting data for submission on the quality measure pertaining to diabetes.  He has asked you for a report that contains his patients who are over the age of 20 with a diagnosis of diabetes or gestational diabetes. 

Using your knowledge of data retrieval and data standards, design a report that will capture all pertinent information that Dr. Bartlett may need.  Create and submit an example of what sample (factious) data would look like in the report. 

The report can be created in Word, Excel, or using the Access Database

Internet   Technologies and the Health Care System

 The use of social media as a source of health information is increasing. For example, large teaching facilities often have a link on their website for additional information about a particular disease or procedure. However, Internet sites like blogs, content communities, and other social networking sites as a source of health information is not without its challenges. These challenges include privacy, security, reimbursement, and accessibility.  In your response, address the following: How can inadequate or lack of access to communication      technology (the digital divide) lead to care inequality in the emerging      e-health model? Discuss at least two types of social media and give      examples of how social media can be applied to e-health.  Discuss the three challenges noted above and how they      relate to the use of social media on the internet as a source of health      information.

Guided response: Your initial post should be a minimum of 200-250 words. Utilize a minimum of two scholarly sources, excluding      the textbook. Sources should be cited in APA format, as outlined in      the Ashford Writing Center. You must respond to at least two of your classmate’s      posts by Day 7. Your three required posts must be on three different      days of the week.  In your response to you classmates discuss the      advantages and disadvantages of at least two social media options.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your discussion.

I think the one issue I have struggled with regarding obesity is the nutritional aspect!  Healthy foods that could foster weight loss may or may not be available for these individuals and if they are available, they may be very expensive.  What strategies do you feel we can use to combat this issue?
