Infographics use pictures, images, and colors along with content to visually express information in a meaningful

and compelling way and have been growing in popularity, as they are effective at presenting large amounts of

information that identifies relationships among the data. Higher education administrators and policy makers have begun using this platform to share information to diverse and wide audiences to generate dialogue about issues affecting today’s colleges and universities.

For this assignment, you will work individually or in pairs to create an infographic for a functional unit at an institution of your choice. The goal of this infographic should be to pull together research and data about an issue that professionals in your chosen functional area face in their daily work, yet would like more information. For example, your chosen functional area might appreciate more information concerning: needs of GLBT students, spirituality on campus, Black male athletes’ success, engaging transfer students, welcoming veteran populations, growing racial diversity, supporting online learners, etc. In essence, higher education administrators and your peers should be able to learn through viewing and interpreting the various graphical information and text presented via your infographic. To complete this assignment, you should:

Choose an Institution and Functional Area. This is an opportunity for you to expand your understanding of issues facing student affairs and higher education as a whole. Therefore, you cannot choose your current functional area or one in which you performed your internship.
— I chose LGBTQ center in UH please see the website bellow

Interview a Professional: Conduct an interview (in person, by phone, or by video conference) with a professional at your chosen site to get a sense of their department and possible issues that they face in their work. You should connect with the Director of the unit in order to determine the needs of the unit; it is acceptable if they provide a designee for the project.

The issue that currently this department has is that they don’t have statistics around LGBTQ students to assess and evaluate their graduation or retention rates. Please find article and facts around this.

Submit your idea of infographic concept to Dr. Davis and your institutional contact. Prepare an email that shares the topic, the institutional contact, and when you will present the final project to your functional area. You should also include a short abstract that highlights the purpose of the topic and why it is important to your functional area. This should be completed no later than January 30th.

Create and share your infographic. You will need to evaluate what parts of the issue are most important to tell/demonstrate and ask how you would represent each piece of information best. You will present your infographic in class, however, if the partner would like for you to share information to their staff or students, you are expected to do so.

Each infographic must meet the following minimum requirements:

Include a combination of words, images, graphics, and numbers (the amount of each will be determined
by your topic and goals)

Must be accompanied by a 2-3 page executive summary of the information presented by your infographic as well as a reflection on preparing the infographic; the executive summary should include a title page and minimum of 5 references (these are not included in the page limit). Please note: If you choose to work as a pair, each person must submit an individual executive summary.
The infographic must clearly state your name and that the infographic is for this course. Recommended text to include near bottom of the infographic: “This infographic was created by <Your Name> for University of Houston ELCS 6342 course taught by Dr. Tiffany Davis, Spring 2020.”
You will submit an electronic version and a print version of your infographic on the assigned due date.
