Advantages
1.Sharing knowledge- If facilitates sharing knowledge. A single manager is not aware about every aspect of decision making topic. Hence the knowledge of every manager gets improved.
2.Diversity in opinions- Every member has a different back group and obviously has a different ideas and opinions. If all the ideas are summed up, the output is much better than the output of individual.
3.Greater acceptability- A decision that is taken by a group has a greater acceptability as this is taken in front of all and form their own views and opinions. The main reason is that the decision is not just imposed on them, but are part of larger consensus.
4.Sense of team spirit- It ensures the strong sense of team spirit amongst the group members and help the group to think together in terms of success as well as failure.
Disadvantages
1.Time consuming- A group decision making consume more time than an individual as the discussion includes a large no of ideas and knowledge. The bigger in size the group, the larger is time consumed by them.
2.Compromise decision- In a large group, it is not possible to include ideas and opinions of all the group members. The best is idea is taken and the decision is made. Hence for some members, It decision may ne compromising decision.
3.Conflicts- If the group is to large or too diverse, there is potential for conflicts which may reduce output.
4.Cost to organization- The cost is generally high in terms of Time, money and resources.
