CAS I (500 words) formative assessment – PASS/FAIL
Identify a patient who experienced an episode of acute clinical deterioration. You may refer to de-identified patient charts in your answer.
Provide a brief clinical history of the patient including presentation and diagnosis (not included in word count)b. Identify and justify the key clinical characteristics / observations you used to assess that this patient was deteriorating / or had deteriorated (100 words)
c. Perform and describe a comprehensive and systematic assessment focusing on the principles of the primary survey (200 words)
d. Analyse and interpret your findings in the context of the patients clinical condition (50 words)e. Prioritise and provide a rationale for the interventions required (150 words)
Topic
Students will be required to complete three Clinical Assessment Sheets (CAS I, II and III). The CAS sheets are designed so that students directly relate the theory gained within the course to practice in the critical care environment. Students will be required to answer the CAS in relation to patients they care for. A high academic standard is expected.
