Soc Deception

Deception in Research
Deception plays a role in many social psychology experiments, the extent to which experienced subjects automatically expect deception to be part of all research studies. For example, a researcher may not be forthcoming about the true nature of an experimental study (e.g., a study of “college students’ attitudes” may actually be a study of prejudice). Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of employing deception as part of the research process. Are there any topics in social psychology that can only be studied using deception? If so, why do you think it is necessary to use deception to study these topics? If not, describe a possible alternative to using deception. Please use scholarly resources to support your statements.
