There are two parts to this assignment: first, show how the Great Awakening prepared the colonists for the principles of democracy; second, how the aftermath of the 7 Years War lead towards political revolution and the creation of an American identity. The Great Awakening was a religious revolt against established authority, addressing the contradictions of the market economy and the increasing impoverishment of the working poor. The War led to the notion that all people should be guaranteed access to land in order to achieve economic security. With the acquisition of the Ohio and the Mississippi, most colonists understood their identity was centered on land ownership.
