What are the components of an effective resume and what are the differences between a job-specific skill and a transferable skill? Why is it important to know the difference when applying for a job?

The resume should posses all the required information related to the position applied apart from basic candidate information to be an effective resume. The important components are
1.Educational qualification relevant to the position applied: The resume should contain relevant educational qualification and need not list all the qualification. But higher education details should be included. For example a graduate level role requires the information regarding graduation and need not mention high school education details.
2. Job experience related to the position: The job experience that is relevant to the position should be included with the roles and responsibilities performed in the position and employer details .
3. Job specific skills: Job specific skills are the skills required to perform the particular job. For example language skills like C, Java or .Net for the software programmers. This is very critical as the recruiters search with the key word related to job specific skill.
4. Transferable skills: Transferable skill refers to the general skills that will provide added advantage. This includes the skills like communication as well as interpersonal skills.
5. Contact information: The address and contact information should be included so that recruiter can contact the applicant.
Job specific skills are the skills required to perform a specific job successfully. Some of the skills can be attained through education and training and some are acquired through the experience in the job. The examples can be the programming skills required for computer programmers and accounting skills for accountants. The transferable skills are the skills that can be used in other jobs as well or the skills that are transferable to perform other jobs. For example: communication skills and interpersonal skills. These skills are can be utilized in most of the jobs as most of the jobs require to communicate and interact effectively with customers or team members. Job specific skills are very critical to perform the job but transferable skills are not much critical but can be utilized to perform the job better. The job specific skills can be acquired through training and are teachable. But transferable skills are soft skills which are mostly inherent and we can only improve the transferable skills.
It is very important to know the difference because the companies will not hire the candidates if they do not posses’ the job specific skills. Hence we should identify the job specific skills and include them in the resume else the employer may reject the application. Transferable skills would contribute in the selection process but job specific skills are very important for the resume to get considered.
