When managing project trade-offs, it is important to understand the root cause of the conflict, and why the need for trade-offs exists. Project managers must carefully evaluate information about the problems that are occurring in their project. As we all know, things are often more complicated than the situation first appears. Any conflict or issue in project will have root causes which need to be identified to ensure the conflict doesn’t occur in future. Below is how the information can be gathered to resolve the conflict in future –
1. Identify the conflict – This involves identification of the risks/conflicts by uncovering, recognizing and describing risks based on similar past projects and other issues.
2. Analyze the risk – This involves analyzing the risks based on frequency of occurence, severity of the risk and likelihood of the occurence of risk. Checkilsts and risk breakdown structures are used to analyze risks.
3. Evaluate the risk/conflict – Once the risks are analyzed, they are evaluated and ranked by giving a priority based on risk priority number which is a combination of likelihood and severity of the risks.
4. Resolve or mitigate the risk – The next step involves mitigating the risk by setting plan based on the rank of the risk. This involves creating prevention plans, contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies.
5. Monitor and review the risk – This step involves monitoring and reviewing project risks to ensure they are mitigated properly to ensure smooth functioning of the project.
