Scenario 2: Conditions and Structures

I feel the most appropriate structure for a large department store, a Big Five accounting firm, as well as a biotechnology company would all be a flexible structure. According to Jones, G.R. (2020), “By moving to a more flexible structure, managers gain more control over their different businesses.” (p. 276). All three businesses listed function in a rapidly changing environment where quick decisions are needed to maintain the best profitability. In a department store customer tastes can change over night with the release of the latest music video, internet vlog or blog, or a popular Hollywood star being photographed in a particular brand or style. An accounting firm must be very flexible with its investments as the investment business can change within minutes. The same is true for a biotechnology company where new technology can change rapidly, so by being flexible they are able to best incorporate that “best” and “newest” technology into their products.

When the market favors the change from a functional to a product, geographic, or market structure to meet the needs of their customers a change could be beneficent to the business. Moving from a functional to a product can help a business when they are able to produce a specific product rather than a group of products at a lower cost than its competitors. As long as the market remains high for that product the business will out perform its competitors. Specialized staff and managers can further increase the profitability of the business. The same goes with geographic structure, if a business is so large that maintaining control of the business is difficult or customer tastes are different from region to region then changing the structure to a geographic structure where individual geographic regional managers control that area and the customers needs for that area can be met, this will increase business revenue.

Scenario 5: Organizational Culture and Structure

Organizational culture is important for establishing norms and standards within organizations that influence all aspects of company life, including times when employees arrive and leave, dress styles and other norms (Ask Media Group, LLC, 2020). A visibly defined culture with noticeably clear expectations of performances should affect people’s behavior in a way that they are aware of what is expected.

Every organization has a culture. Whether or not they are clear on what it is makes all the difference. Organizational culture shapes a company and differentiate them from other companies and competitors. Culture within an organization is much like personalities of people. The culture within a company set the mood and atmosphere of the workplace. The organization I work is pretty laid back and easy going. We are a state contracted company so there are certain aspects of the job that is fast paced, and success driven. We try to make our clients feel comfortable and at home, so our work environment is not as tense as other facilities. I have noticed that things do seem more success focused when CARF comes in annually. CARF is the Commission on Accreditations of Rehabilitation Facilities, yearly we have to make sure the clinic is up to code and standards.
