The story represents Becky’s voluntary escapade to the homelessness to subside the pain of her father’s death inflicted by the destiny . However, the life as a homeless was not as easy as she though it to be earlier. It was demanding, tough and painful to live as a homeless. Most importntly it had the agony of being categorised as one of the wretched people who are forced to be homeless due to circumstances, not on their on will. The society does not count the voluntary homeless differently from the helpless ones. For Becky it was an experience as a part of progression of life.
The self inflicted homelessness seems to be a result of circumstances, her father’s death, where she wanted to ease her pain through being a free person,disillusioned by material things, leaving everything apart. The homelessness helped her to realize the hardships and ground realities of being homeless, tempting her back to the mainstream.
