TITLE OF THE PAPER 7
Abstract
This should be a paragraph of at least three sentences and no more than six sentences summarizing what the paper is about. Give me a brief summary on what the study is and why this is an abnormal case. The complete assignment can be found in Appendix A. If you haven’t saved your paper yet you should save it right now and often while working on the paper. Save the paper as your last name with a period then your first name and a hyphen then the topic of the paper. Here is an example, ‘Gross.Lucas-Cardiac Case Study’.
Section 1—Defining the Disease
Identify the specific disease state and study to be discussed. Research the disease state presented. Identify and discuss the disease state by answering the following: etiology (causes) of this disease state, typical signs/symptoms, treatment methods, prognosis of any patient with this disorder (M/F & Age).
Introduce me to the disease and the testing to confirm or rule out the disease in typical manner. For more information on how to cite in-text visit the Purdue Owl Writing Lab online at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/02/ . For the purposes of these assignments please list the author’s last name(s) and year in parenthesis (Gross, 2017).
Section 2—History
Describe the medical history of a patient with this disease state, emphasizing those areas that may be pertinent to the tentative diagnosis for which the nuclear medicine study has been requested. Explain why the nuclear medicine study would be ordered based on the medical history.
Research and discuss all pertinent non-nuclear tests which may be ordered for a patient with this disease state and explain why this information is beneficial to the physician for proper diagnosis (i.e., lab, x-rays, pulmonary function, etc.). Be specific. Discuss the expected test results relative to the tentative diagnoses. Examples of this section would include more citing from the sources from your research.
Section 3—Procedure
Describe the nuclear medicine procedure performed as it is done at your clinical training site. Be sure to include all technical information such as patient prep and why or why not, radiopharmaceutical used and why, dosage given, instrumentation settings and/or computer commands, preferred patient position, views taken, collimator used and why, etc.
Describe the results of a nuclear medicine study and explain how these results confirm or rule out the tentative diagnosis. Be specific. DO NOT send a copy of a physician’s report or films, but you may use this information as the basis or as a guide for your discussion.
This is where you reinforce the facts from sections one and two that it is an abnormal study.
Section 4 – Interpretation
Summarize the entire case study reflecting on the care of the patient, the type of test ordered, and when the test were ordered. Is there a more efficient way to diagnose the patient? Were there any other diseases that may have affected the outcome? How can we, as a nuclear medicine technologist, care better for the patient? Was this the best procedure for the patient’s diagnosis? Why or why not? In your own words answer all these questions.

Requirements:
· Be 5-10 pages including the title page, abstract page, and reference page
· Be double spaced
· Have a minimum of 3 sources documented (in-text citations & referenced)
· APA Style—Times New Roman, font size 12 pt., 1” margins on all sides
· Visit Purdue Owl Writing Lab (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/)
· Be submitted to the Oiler Writing Center for review and feedback prior to submitting for grading
· The file name is correct; your last name with a period then your first name and a hyphen then the topic of the paper. Here is an example, ‘Gross.Lucas-Cardiac Case Study’.
· The SafeAssign maximum percentage can be no more than 30. There will be two attempts allowed.
The assigned topic areas are:
· Cardiac
· Endocrine
· Gastrointestinal
· Genitourinary
Each specific topic must be submitted, but can only be submitted once. Each case study should be written up separately and completely. If the same topic/system is submitted twice, the repeated topic will receive a zero.
For each general topic area:
1. Select a possible abnormal study in the chosen topic area. NO CREDIT (zero points) will be given if the disease state is not clearly identified (even if the remaining portions of the case study are submitted).
2. For each case study selected:
a. Identify the specific disease state and study to be discussed.
b. Describe the nuclear medicine procedure performed as it is done in your clinical training site. Be sure to include all technical information such as patient prep and why or why not, radiopharmaceutical used and why, dosage given, instrumentation settings and/or computer commands, preferred patient position, views taken, collimator used and why, etc.
c. Describe the medical history of a patient with this disease state, emphasizing those areas that may be pertinent to the tentative diagnosis for which the nuclear medicine study has been requested. Explain why the nuclear medicine study would be ordered based on the medical history.
d. Research and discuss all pertinent non-nuclear tests which may be ordered for a patient with this disease state and explain why this information is beneficial to the physician for proper diagnosis (i.e., lab, x-rays, pulmonary function, etc.). Be specific. Discuss the expected test results relative to the tentative diagnoses.
e. Describe the results of a nuclear medicine study and explain how these results confirm or rule out the tentative diagnosis. Be specific. DO NOT send a copy of a physician’s report or films, but you may use this information as the basis or as a guide for your discussion.
