Persuasive Major Speech #2 Overview
Learning Objective
1. To influence the attitudes, beliefs and behavior of an audience with regard to your idea or concept. Persuasion consists of stating a claim and then providing evidence in support of that claim.
NOTE: Keep in mind the Persuasive Speech has several mini-assignments that lead up to the presentation itself. This page serves as a reference for what is required as a whole. See course calendar for due date.

Topic
You will have two topics for this speech. Your first topic will be informing the audience on a PROBLEM in society (that relates to our class/audience). Your second topic will be persuading the audience to adopt your SOLUTION to the problem.
Time Requirements
You will prepare a 5-7 minute persuasive speech in which you may choose a topic geared toward behavior change.

Step 5: Action Steps & Closing 1 minute

*You have a two minute window of 5 – 7 minutes without penalty for going over or under the time limit.
Organization
This speech organization should follow the 5 steps of Monroe’s Motivated Sequence. Your speech will still follow an introduction, body and conclusion. The Monroe’s Motivated Sequence technique is a useful framework in the logical development of the speech composition and delivery and an effective method of persuasion. It is also a successful tool for persuasion by guiding the natural thought process of the listener.
