Forensic Report on Operation Hawk

This assessment achieves learning outcomes 2, 4 and 5.
For this assessment, you are provided with the results from the analysis of the following items in Operation Hawk:

● DNA
• ○ DNA profile of victim, Jennifer Day, from analysis of the saliva swab from rim of glass
(Item number: TW/1)
• ○ DNA profile of a male, unknown, from analysis of semen stain in the gusset of
victim’s underwear (Item number: BM/2)

● Fingermarks
• Fingermark analysis from exterior of glass (Item number: SR/1) indicating matching right thumb print to male cuckooer and matching left forefinger to victim

● Toxicology
• ○ LCMS profile of liquid found in glass (Item number: TW/2) confirmed presence of
morphine
• ○ Post-mortem toxicology from the victim’s blood reference sample (Item number:
CA/1) reveals low levels of morphine

● CCTV footage
CCTV footage (Item number: TR/1) from the street outside 8 Hampshire Terrace, Portsmouth, PO1 2QQ shows an unidentified female entering property at 16:00 p.m. on the 25th of July. Jennifer day enters property at 17:09 pm and the unidentified female can be seen leaving the property at 18:19 pm

You must interpret the findings of the analysis in relation to Operation Hawk. In your discussion, you must include possible arguments for both the prosecution and defence.

As this is a report, your work should be structured with the use of sub-headings.

An example layout is shown below but you can be creative.
Report Layout
Introduction – outline the aim of the report and a brief summary of the case details. The summary must be written in your own words and not a copy of the scenario provided.

Summary of the results – you must tabulate the results in this section.

Interpretation/Discussion – there is room for creativity in this section but you must make the possible arguments for both the prosecution and the defence clear for all four types of evidence.

An example layout for this section is given below. Certain evidence types may have more in depth interpretation than the others; therefore you do not need to have an equal amount of words per evidence type.

Example: Section by forensic discipline
DNA
Interpretation of the DNA results and arguments for both prosecution and defence
Fingermarks
Interpretation of the fingermark results and arguments for both prosecution and defence

Toxicology
Interpretation of the toxicology results and arguments for both prosecution and defence

Digital evidence
Interpretation of the digital evidence and arguments for both prosecution and defence

Conclusion – summarise the key points from the discussion relating back to the aim of the report. You have already interpreted the results in the discussion section so just state whether the aim was met and how.

References – the report must be fully cited and referenced according to APA 6th edition guidelines. Report Submission

  • Why was the written language not a barrier for the African when sharing the story of Jesus?
  • How does the discussion of the two African detainees reflect information you have learned about the faith of African people?
  • Discuss the aspects of the story of Jesus that were similar to the Africans’ society and culture?
  • Discuss how the video clip can convey that Africans adapted Christianity to their faith traditions.
  • The video clip you will be watching is from the motion picture, Amistad produced in 2010. (Watch the entire movie when you can.)

Context: In 1841, A shipload of Africans are being detained in a prison after their rebellion on the slave ship La Amistad. The Africans were  trying to return to Africa.

The sailors who were not killed in the rebellion, were supposed to take ship back to Africa. However, the sailors sailed the ship up the east coast of the US. The ship was commandeered off the coast of Connecticut.  The Africans were detained in a prison until it was determined by the US Supreme Court as to whether they were enslaved or free. On their way to the detainment center,  a woman handed one of the Africans a book.  It is this book that the Africans are looking through in the video.

LC 4004 Leadership and Organizational Culture and Growth

Scenario 1:
Tower 4 West is a 36-bed medical unit. The nurse leader, Renee, is a new leader, and one of the measures of her performance is based on the number of medication errors reported on her unit. As a result, she has told everyone very clearly that she will not tolerate errors and that she wants the unit to have zero medication errors each month. When an error does occur, she meets individually with the nurse, writes up the nurse’s error, and puts a report in the nurse’s performance review files. She has put two nurses on performance probation thus far. As a result, the nurses on the unit are afraid to report when an error occurs, and they have begun to cover for each other and not report errors. You are a staff nurse on the unit and you want to serve as a leader and create a blame-free environment.

In your response, address the following:

Explain whether Renee’s leadership approach toward medication errors on the nursing unit is appropriate and explain why. Then, provide at least one outcome result from Renee’s leadership approach on the nursing unit.
Explain leadership steps you would take to effect change on the nursing unit. Explain how a Just Culture might influence the outcome of medication errors on the unit.
Scenario 2:
You are the charge nurse and the nursing assistant comes to you with the following question concerning an assignment she has been asked to carry out by one of the other RN’s on the floor. “Sam asked me to go to the medication room and get the patient’s bottle of Digoxin out of the medication box and bring it to her because she is so far behind. Am I allowed to do that?”

In your response, address the following:

Explain your response to the nursing assistant citing the applicable legal principles for delegation and promotion of drug safety on the nursing unit.
Explain the education that would need to be provided regarding delegation principles, including the identification of items that can be delegated and items that cannot be delegated to Sam; and, explain why the delegation educational plan you suggest is appropriate.
Recommend team building strategies that should be implemented on the nursing floor to help develop consistency with delegation. Explain how you would apply these team-building strategies to enhance nursing roles and responsibilities for patient quality and safety as described in the scenario.

Scenario 2: Effective Leadership

“There are several types of power: legitimate, reward, coercive, expert, and referent power. Effective leasers take steps to ensure that they have sufficient levels of each type and that they use their power in beneficial ways” (Jones, 2020). In my time of working in property management, I have had three different community managers. My first community manager showed referent power the most, she had the respect, admiration, and loyalty from our entire staff. She was always willing to work in any department and made everyone feel appreciated and valued. My second manager used coercive power more often, she used her power as the community manager to punish others which made most of the staff resent and retaliate against her. The third community manager used reward power as she was always willing to give tangible rewards such as bonuses and prizes. This allowed many of the staff members to continue to work hard to receive these awards, but it also brought on the issue of staff members always expecting to receive a reward.

I believe effective leaders know when to use a specific managerial power to keep their employees productive and working efficiently. They are able to analyze the tasks at hand that need to be completed and use the correct power to ensure the tasks are being completed, while still caring for their employees. In order to make sure managers are using the correct managerial power, they are able to look at the tasks and see what type of power should be used to ensure their employees are treated fairly but to also make sure the tasks gets completed in a timely manner.

Scenario 3

One of my favorite living leaders would be 44th President Barack Obama. A person cannot become a leader until and unless he is a great communicator. Mr. Obama is a leader because he knows how to talk to any person, group or audience regardless of their background, age, race, gender, etc. His entire campaign was a classic case of how to communicate with virtually each and every person in the USA who is eligible to vote, gain his confidence and send the message across in clear terms. Another characteristic that he embodies would be his We-Not-I attitude. The act of using we is a unique way of making people involved in a conversation and then making them believe they have actually contributed something positive to a cause. Countless times in his speeches, Obama used “we” in and making people believe the people of a particular city or the whole country has done something which they can be proud of.

During both of his terms as president, Mr.Obama had to consider everything he did and said. His consideration wasn’t only for himself and family but also for the voters he was rallying in his corner. He had to consider how the world would function each day whether it was economical, political and or environmental, the final decisions came down to him. When it comes to structure, running the world could leave things unorganized at certain points. During the depression he had to make sure structure was in order for unemployment payments, during hurricane season, he had to structure FEMA packages and even while our soldiers were at war he had to structure safe travels back and forth for them. All in all I believe that as a leader he was dealt a unfair hand and made the best out of it.

Strategic Assessment Project/PPT

Assignment Instructions
Week 8 Final Project – Strategic Assessment Project (PowerPoint presentation plus References page)

Goal: Develop and present via PowerPoint a strategic plan for your organization, integrating various concepts, components and processes presented throughout this course. Submit the presentation (ppt or pptx) along with a References page (.doc) that verifies sources used.

Introduction: Managers who want to improve the effectiveness of the future outcomes of their organization employ strategic planning. In a 20-25-slide PowerPoint presentation, present a strategic plan for your organization, accompanied by a References-only page as a Word.doc that contains the minimum 10 sources used in the development of the presentation. Your presentation may be a re-developed plan based on the plan your organization already uses. If you are in the military, you may elect to choose a company where you previously worked or select a company. In any case, you will need to begin by providing a brief history of the company, and then delve into the process detailed more fully below. Accompany your writing with a minimum five scholarly journal articles that support the assertions made in your strategic plan. You will also need to use at least five other sources—books, magazines, websites, and even interviews—to augment your data support for the presentation.

Your strategic plan should address [Suggested number of PPT slides in brackets]:

The Name of the Company/Firm [1 PPT slide]

Brief History of the Company (or Organization), its Mission and Vision [2-3 PPT slides]

Organizational Analysis [5-6 PPT slides] : This section will present your identification of the firm’s strengths and weaknesses, which emanate from your value chain and functional analyses. There is a maximum of five strengths and five weaknesses and your presentation of them should be prioritized. Exhibits are effective tools to provide strong support for each strength and weakness. Please be as specific as possible and quantify your analysis where appropriate. This section will provide the first part of the foundation for your identification of strategic issues and related recommendations through your analysis of the organization’s core competencies, competitive advantages and organizational weaknesses.

Environmental Analysis [5-6 PPT slides]: This section will present your identification of the major external threats and opportunities currently facing the organization. These will be generated from your analysis of the industry and general environmental factors in light of the organization’s strengths and weaknesses. A maximum of five threats and five opportunities should be identified and should be presented in a prioritized order. Use power point exhibits to support your analysis, be specific and quantify your analysis where possible. This section will provide the second part of the foundation for your identification of a strategic issue and the formulation of related recommendations through your analysis of driving forces, key success factors and industry attractiveness.

Strategic Issues And Recommendations [6-7 PPT slides]: Identify (with support) the most important strategic issue facing your organization. It is extremely important that you clearly integrate the strategic issue with your analysis to the organization’s SWOT. There may be interrelationships between particular weaknesses and threats or missed opportunities, which should be recognized. It may be possible that 2 different weaknesses, 1 threat and 1 opportunity could be combined, due to their relatedness, to form one strategic issue. Similarly, your recommendations should attempt to capitalize and build upon strengths, competitive advantages and opportunities that you identified. The point is to clearly ground your issue and recommendations with the internal and external analyses so that the presentation is clear.

Conclusion/Summary [1-2 PPT slides]

PowerPoint Suggestions:

The slides need to be detailed, ready for presentation, and professional in appearance. View the example in the attachment provided (below). Note how the citations are placed directly on the slides. Be sure to provide a separate references page that links to the citations on the PowerPoint. An example of how a references page should look is not provided, since you already should be able to construct that document as you would any other references page in APA.
The scholarship required for this project must be cited on the slides, i.e., 10 overall sources minimum, as specified in the Introduction above.
The PowerPoint rubric will be used instead of the Writing Rubric for all PPTs.
Upload your PPT and references (.doc) in the Assignment section, just as you would any other assignment.
NOTE about the use of pictures—the website upload limit per PPT is 25MB.
Always present in “third person”
Do not forget to upload your separate references-only page to support the citations that appear on the PowerPoint.
Other Important Details:

Upload BOTH your PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx) and References page (.doc) in the assignment section for grading

Enzyme post lab question

You will use the Enzyme Lab.docx to complete this lab and answer the questions in the document.

Please type your answers to the postlab questions in a separate word document and submit that to Canvas.

You can make your graphs separately, take a picture and upload the photo with your written answer document.

Upload all materials at the same time when you are complete.

You can upload more than one file before you submit your assignment to Canvas. This may mean that you have to email yourself your graph pictures, save them to your device and then upload them.

Enzyme Lab Procedures and Post-lab questions

Purpose

The goal of the following exercise is to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of enzymes. The purpose of part A is to understand how enzymes are influenced by substrate concentration. The purpose of part B is to emphasize the effects that changes in pH can have on enzyme activity.

Task

Follow the instructions provided below to complete the exercise. Contact your instructor as soon as possible if you cannot get the websites to work; alternate arrangements will require some scheduling time!  Please type your answers to the questions in a separate document for the exercise, save it as a Word document, and upload it to Canvas by the due date provided by your instructor.

Student success

Give yourself plenty of time to follow the simulations provided and to analyze the data. This will be reflected in your grade as well as your attention to detail and ability to interpret information.

Procedure:

  1. Log-in to the online simulation using the following simulation link:

  1. You may have to make sure that Flash is enabled on your browser.
  2. You may have want to turn off the audio for the simulation (look for the Audio button in the bottom right corner and click on it to turn off the sound).
  3. Follow the instructions on the left panel (click on the TV screen, click on “information” to read about enzymes). Note: we are starting with the changing substrate concentration experiment first and the changing pH experiment second.
  4. In the upper right hand corner of the pup-up window “X” out of the video.

  1. Part A (the effect of substrate concentration on enzyme activity):
    1. Make sure the pH for the tubes are all set to pH 7. If necessary, adjust the pH of the tubes with the up/down arrows.
    2. You will “add” a different substrate concentration into each of the test tubes by dragging the weigh paper (white rectangles in front of the “ # g substrate” labels) containing different amounts of substrate to the appropriate test tube; use the following table to properly put in the correct amount of substrate.

Test Tube 1 Test Tube 2 Test Tube 3 Test Tube 4 Test Tube 5
0.5 g 1.0 g 2.0 g 4.0 g 8.0 g

  1. After you have added the substrate to the tubes, you will need to record the data.
  2. Click on the computer monitor in left part of the simulation screen and a data table will pop up.
  3. For the post lab questions below, you will need to include a graph of the data (Figure 1, second to last page of the lab). Use the amount added (g of substrate) for the x-axis and the outcome of the experiment (number of molecules of product) for the y-axis.
  4. After you have your data, click the reset button to return the simulation to base line.

  1. Part B (the effect of pH on enzyme activity) –
    1. You will be keeping the substrate concentration the same. You may pick whichever amount you want, but my suggestion is to use 2.0 g of substrate.
    2. For this experiment, you will adjust the pH for each test tube. Use the following table to correctly set the pH of each solution.
      1. Use the blue up and down arrows above and below the pH reading to change the pH of the solution in each test tube.
      2. Add a constant amount of substrate to each tube (for example, drag the weigh paper containing 2.0 g substrate to the each test tube).

Test Tube 1 Test Tube 2 Test Tube 3 Test Tube 4 Test Tube 5
pH 3 pH 5 pH 7 pH 9 pH 11

  1. After you have added the substrate to the tubes, you will need to record the data.
  2. Click on the computer monitor in left part of the simulation screen and a data table will pop up.
  3. Graph the data (Figure 2 at the end of the lab) to include in your post-lab questions.
  4. Use the pH of the test tubes for your x-axis and the outcome of the experiment (number of molecules of product) for the y-axis.

Post-Lab Questions for Part 1 and Part 2;

Answer each question in your own words and provide data from the experiment to support your answer where appropriate. You must also make this a separate Word document to turn in.

  1. According to the Virtual lab information box;
    1. What are enzymes?
    2. How does an enzyme influence a reaction?
    3. Does an enzyme get used up in the reaction?
  2. After analyzing the data for part 1 of this simulation, explain how substrate concentration affects enzyme activity; answer in your own words, be as thorough as possible and make sure to include data from the experiment.
  3. Watch the video from the simulation (click on the TV monitor) and read the article from the Kahn academy found here (https://www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/energy-and-enzymes/enzyme-regulation/a/basics-of-enzyme-kinetics-graphs).

Read from the Introduction through the Basic enzyme kinetics graphs section of the hyperlinked Kahn academy article. Answer the following question: how do you explain the data at both 4.0 g and 8.0 g of substrate?

  1. Based on what you know about enzyme concentration (Chapter 3 and your class notes), explain what would you expect the graph to look like if you added a higher concentration of enzyme to each test tube while holding both substrate concentration, pH, and temperature constant.
  2. After graphing the data for the effect of pH on enzyme concentration (part 2), explain how pH affects enzyme activity. Answer in your own words, be as thorough as possible and make sure to include data from the experiment.
  3. Using the data from part 2 of the simulation, answer the following:
    1. Which pH is the most optimal for enzyme activity for this enzyme?
    2. Which pH(s) is/are the least optimal for enzyme activity for this enzyme?
  4. Remember that enzymes are proteins.
    1. Which level of protein structure is most affected by pH (primary, secondary, tertiary, or quaternary?)?
    2. How is this reflected in the data? In other words, how can you explain the drop in activity at low and high pH in terms of enzyme structure?
  5. This simulation looked only at substrate concentration and pH.
    1. Using what you know about proteins and enzymes, explain how changes in temperature may affect enzyme activity.
    2. If we ran this experiment at 80 C, what affect would that have on the enzyme structure?
  6. Include both graphs that you created using the data from the simulation.

Analyze your enzyme data:

  1. Graph your #2 Part A (the effect of substrate concentration on enzyme activity) data on the following figure. When you are done, submit a picture of your graph.
    1. Use the amount added (g of substrate) for the x-axis and the outcome of the experiment (number of molecules of product) for the y-axis.
    2. Connect the data points with a line so that you can see a trend.
    3. There is only one experiment, so you do not need a legend for this graph.
    4. Give your graph a descriptive title (e.g. “Figure 1. The effect of _____ on _____”).

Figure 1.  ____________________

Analyze your enzyme data:

  1. Graph your #3 Part B (the effect of pH on enzyme activity) data on the following figure. When you are done, submit a picture of your graph.

  1. Use the pH of the test tubes for your x-axis and the outcome of the experiment (number of molecules of product) for the y-axis.
  2. Connect the data points with a line so that you can see a trend.
  3. There is only one experiment, so you do not need a legend for this graph.
  4. Give your graph a descriptive title (e.g. “Figure 2. The effect of _____ on _____”).

The contribution of the Asian community to the City of Richmond during the COVID-19 pandemic

The contribution of the Asian community to the City of Richmond during the COVID-19 pandemic

(Richmond mayor Malcolm Brodie stands together with the Asian community fundraising team in front of the closed Richmond City Hall)

The Finance Minister, Bill Morneau, has often claimed that the Canadian economy is strong and the COVID-19 pandemic will not significantly affect it. However, most people in Richmond and other areas in the lower mainland have already begun feeling the brunt of the epidemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to ravage Vancouver’s lower mainland, and many people’s lives have faced disruptions. People have lost their job as the province has issued safety measures. Health workers and other essential workers are also risking their lives by working during the pandemic.

However, the Asian community has stepped up to help those in need during these hard times. The organizer of the Asian community fundraising team Melissa Zhang, notes that they “have made donations in different forms, both in cash and medical supplies to Richmond Hospital Foundation to help protect the front line health workers and treat patients.”

The Asian community fundraising team will also set up a COVID-19 emergency donation link with Richmond Hospital Foundation on the foundation’s website. The name for the donating link will be known as “our community, our home”.

(Richmond mayor Malcolm Brodie accepts a $23000 cheque from the Asian community fundraising team on behalf of Richmond Hospital Foundation)

(Richmond mayor Malcolm Brodie accepts a $8000 cheque from the Asian community fundraising team on behalf of Richmond Hospital Foundation)

Malcolm Brodie, the mayor of Richmond, welcomed the efforts of the Asian community. In an interview with the mayor, he emphasized that “it is important to let people who are affected know other people are behind them and they are important, and together, we will get through.”Richmond City Council had already launched a social

media campaign that encouraged people to share thoughts and images in support of each other during this difficult time. The campaign’s hashtag is #RichmondHasHeart. The Asian community fundraising team joined this campaign where they presented two cheques worth $23000 and $8000 to the mayor in front of a closed city hall on April 15th.

The efforts by the mayor came at a time where many people felt that the City of Richmond was not doing enough to help residents who were hardest hit by the disruptions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. For these residents, the actions of the city, in partnership with the Asian community fundraising team, will be a relief during these hard times.

Capstone Project topic selection and approval

In collaboration with the approved course preceptor, students will identify a specific evidence-based topic for the capstone project change proposal. Students should consider the clinical environment in which they are currently employed or have recently worked. The capstone project topic can be a clinical practice problem, an organizational issue, a leadership or quality improvement initiative, or an unmet educational need specific to a patient population or community. The student may also choose to work with an interprofessional collaborative team.
Students should select a topic that aligns to their area of interest as well as the clinical practice setting in which practice hours are completed.
Write a 500-750 word description of your proposed capstone project topic. Include the following:
The problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project that will be the focus of the change proposal.
The setting or context in which the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project can be observed.
A description (providing a high level of detail) regarding the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.
Effect of the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.
Significance of the topic and its implications for nursing practice.
A proposed solution to the identified project topic with an explanation of how it will affect nursing practice.
You are required to cite to a minimum of eight peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice. Plan your time accordingly to complete this assignment.
