You work for Firm X, a department store with locations across the country. The Firm X brand targets shoppers under the age of 35 and sells clothes, electronics, home furnishings, and more recently, groceries.

Your supervisor, Maria Gonzalez, has informed all employees that Firm X is launching a worldwide change to the types of shopping services they offer their customers. As part of this process, you have been asked to look at how local customers’ shopping habits are changing. Specifically, Ms. Gonzalez wants to know how your customers are reacting to the dramatic increase in online shopping.

 

To gather the most accurate information from your customers, you will create a survey. Then, you will share it with your store’s management team in a professional presentation. Firm X will use the information you gather to influence its retail strategy. The survey results will also help Firm X decide whether it will invest in storefronts in larger shopping centers.

Ms. Gonzalez feels strongly that it is important to know as much as possible about why your local customers shop the way they do. She also wants to learn more about new trends and shopping options customers would like Firm X to begin using in their business.

 

To gather this information, you will create a customer survey using the customer survey template in the “What to Submit” section. Your survey should focus on what your customers think about customer service and the customer experience. This information will be helpful in creating a new shopping experience.

 

In order to motivate as many customers as possible to respond to the survey, it should not contain too many questions. There is no required number of questions, but 10 to 15 questions is a recommended range. You can use multiple choice, yes/no, and short response questions.

 

Present your survey using PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Slides, or a similar presentation tool. Be sure to include speaker notes so that your reviewer knows what you would say if you were actually presenting. Use the presentation resources in the Supporting Materials section if you need more information about using presentation tools.

 

Customer Survey

To get started, use the customer survey template in the “What to Submit” section to help organize your survey questions. Other helpful resources can be found in the Supporting Materials section.

 

Keep in mind that your survey should not be more than 15 questions long. You can use multiple choice, yes/no, and short response questions. Be sure to reach out to a Shapiro Library librarian if you need help finding resources to write your survey.

 

Professional Presentation

Use a presentation tool to create an 8- to 10-slide presentation that explains the important points about your survey. Review the resources on creating customer experience surveys in the Supporting Materials. These can be used to support the information in your presentation. Be sure to appropriately cite all sources and images.

 

Remember to include speaker notes for each slide in your presentation. These notes will help your reviewer fully understand your presentation. To learn more about writing speaker notes, use the Speaker Notes tutorial in the Supporting Materials section.

The leadership models which entail ethical, servant, and authentic leadership, in my opinion, are effective global leadership models. Supporting this theory is the fact that we all have our determination as to what exactly leadership is, whether you are in sports, or a business organization, leadership is an important factor to establish in any working environment.

Servant leadership is best described as leadership that allows an individual to listen to build the confidence in other people, putting service before self, being trustworthy, and helping others develop their full potential (Warrick, 2016). Servant leadership can be used as an effective global leadership model to showcase the importance of being a leader by helping others before helping yourself. The clear picture that servant leadership can illustrate as a global leadership model is service before self. An example of servant leadership is the United States Army, as one of the Army Values is Selfless Service, which describes placing the mission first.

Authentic leadership describes how the leader has built its legacy through input and relationships with subordinates based on input in which the foundation is ethical. How authentic leadership can serve as a global leadership model is to showcase how those in charge rely on those who work for them to build their success, not only in terms of leadership but also for the organization as a whole. The input factor is where the leader reaches out for the honest opinion of subordinates, to discuss if things are not going as planned and If any shortcuts are being made, which describes the ethical foundation.

Ethical leadership is comprised of different beliefs and values in which everyone shows respect to include their dignity and rights. Ethical leadership, in my opinion, is the most important out of all three. This showcases that despite what individuals believe in or have no choice in believing in, everyone can work together and treat each other with the dignity and respect that allows an organization to run as smoothly as possible.

Servant, authentic and ethical leadership can be loosely explained as leadership models that cater to the needs, well-being of others or simply serving others. The servant as a leader, servant leadership stresses serving others; placing the needs of others above your own (Warrick, 2016). Authentic and ethical leadership models carry the same value. Successful leaders seek to build credibility (Warrick, 2016). This is achieved by being authentic and transparent as well as building those relationships that will create a more efficient leadership process. Ethical leadership is doing what is right and proper as it pertains to the organizational culture, individual culture and beliefs, legality, respect, and dignity. Ethics are the values and principles that govern a person’s or group’s actions and that are considered good or bad, right or wrong (Warrick, 2016).

Global leadership is more intricate than normal leadership. The importance of interpersonal relationships and knowing those you lead are greater for reasons such as the typical resistances to leadership, cultural differences and diversity. Dimensions of diversity are both primary (age, gender, and race) and secondary (education, marital status, and religion). There is another side to diversity that we call culture. Knowing and understanding cultures on a global scale will only enhance your capabilities as a leader. Therefore servant, authentic and ethical leadership models have been so successful in different organization, cultures and countries. These leadership models foster and support catering to the various needs of those organizations, cultures and countries. These leadership models are a necessary tool that bridges the gaps within the barriers to effective leadership and communication on a global scale.
