Policy Development

Often, policymakers develop policies in response to a recent societal problem or event. Whereas some societal problems, such as homelessness, unemployment, and poverty, require long-term policy development and refinement, society sometimes demands immediate policy implementation in response to events or problems that proved dangerous for society at large. For example, the U.S. terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the subsequent terrorist threats heightened airport security and created item restrictions for airplane carry-on luggage. Over time, policymakers adjusted these policies as the danger appeared less imminent due to the development of other policies. What policies are you aware of that policymakers developed in response to a societal problem or event? Are those policies effective responses to the problems or events? If not, how might you change them in order to make them more effective?

For this Discussion, review this week’s resources. Using reputable news and education sources, search for an event that led to the formation of a social policy. Then, consider what changes you might make to the policy that resulted from this event. Finally, think about the role of social work (as a profession and political lobby) in the formation of the policy.

Ideological Perspectives Of Population-Specific Policy

Social workers often are very aware of and informed about the needs of the specific populations with which they work. As a result, it is important that social workers get involved in the policy-creation process by sharing their experiences and perspectives with others, including policymakers.

For this Discussion, select a population of particular interest to you. Then, select three to five policies (including two to three state-level and two to three federal-level policies) related to that population. Finally, subscribe to a variety of blog alerts concerning the population and the policies you selected. Note that you will be discussing about these policies throughout the course. You will also critically review the published opinions of bloggers outside of this course, who write about the policies you identified.

Discussion: Classifications Of Life-Span Development

When did you become an adult? Was it the day you graduated from high school? Or, was it the day you moved out of your parents’ or caregivers’ home? Your description of what it means to be an adult and how and when an adolescent transitions into adulthood may differ from that of your colleagues.

The authors of your course text, Zastrow, Kirst-Ashman, & Hessenauer, use the term young and middle adulthood to identify the life-span time period between age 18 and 65. This classification distinguishes this time in the life of an individual from childhood and adolescence and from the later years of adulthood.

Is the authors’ young and middle adulthood classification a useful one? What is especially useful and not useful about the classification? What changes would you make to the authors’ classification to make it more applicable to your role as a social worker?

For this Discussion, you analyze the author’s life-span classification and suggest ways to improve it.

By Day 3  support your posts with specific references to the resources. If you are using additional articles, be sure to provide full APA-formatted citations for your references below:

Middle Adulthood Health, Demography, And Social Work Practice

A health crisis can occur at any phase in an individual’s life span. General health concerns, however, tend to increase with age. As a social worker, your awareness of the biological aspects of middle adulthood will inform your work with clients in this life-span phase.

In this Assignment, you address the health concerns that clients may face as they reach middle adulthood. You also address the potential impact of the environment on the health of individuals in this life-span phase.

By Day 7

Submit a 2- to 4-page paper that includes the following:

  • A description of the health concerns that clients may face as they reach middle adulthood
  • An analysis that explains how factors such as race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and other demographic characteristics might impact at least three of the health concerns you identified
  • An explanation of how you, as a social worker, should take these potential health concerns and the environmental factors that influence them into account as you complete your assessments

Introduction

Starting a restaurant can be quite an undertaking. Without adequate planning and top-notch execution you might end up starting something that will ultimately fail. For this reason you need a plan of action. You need to practice accountability and good decision making. These are some of the personal initiatives that will make or break a new establishment. In this paper, i would like to outline the preliminary operations of the restaurant. These operations if done well will give the diner positive momentum. This will attract customers who are potential patrons of the restaurant in the future. In this paper, I will formulate a Food safety plan to ensure that handling of food is done with good standards. I will then outline the Food production procedures of the restaurant to provide a preview of how the restaurant will operate efficiently to achieve its goals and objectives as a family friendly diner. I will also provide an analysis on the food costs and Food Costs percentages so that you can gain a deeper understanding of the economics of a restaurant. Lastly, i will provide a staffing plan for the restaurant with a two case studies for the assistant manager and a server position. With that said, let’s take a look at Sizzles Food safety Plan.

The Food safety plan:

The plan utilizes the seven principles of the Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Point system. Sizzles diner safety plan is Process based. That means the plan groups together menu items that are processed in the same way and conducts Hazard analysis, discerns control points and critical limits, establishes monitoring procedures as well as defining corrective actions and verification procedures that make sure that the food is safe. After identifying hazardous items and grouping them by process, the following is the Sizzles diner food safety plan.

Hazardous food categories: No-cook foods, Cook-Hold-Serve foods, Cook-Chill-Serve.

No-Cook-Foods

Menu Items that fall under this plan: sandwiches

step Is Critical? Critical Limit Monitoring method Corrective Action.
receiving yes 4˚C max Check food temp Reject food
Storage yes 4 ˚C max Check cooler temp Adjust cooler or discard food
preparation yes Clean hands Observe practices Discard food
Cold Holding yes 4˚C max Check cooler Adjust cooler

Cook-Hold-Serve foods

Menu Items that fall under this plan: burgers

step Is Critical? Critical Limit Monitoring method Corrective Action.
Receiving No 4 ˚C max Check food temp Reject food
Storing No 4 ˚C max Check cooler Adjust cooler
Preparation No Good hygiene Observe practices Modify practices
cooking Yes 74 ˚C min Check food temp Adjust cook time
Hot holding yes 60 ˚C min Check food temp Discard food

Cook-Chill-Serve

Menu Items that fall under this plan: salads

step Is Critical? Critical Limit Monitoring method Corrective Action.
Receiving No 4 ˚C max Check food temp Reject food
Storing No 4 ˚C max Check cooler temp Adjust cooler
Preparation No Good hygiene Observe practices Modify practices
cooking Yes 74 ˚C min Check food temp Adjust cooking time
Cooling Yes Cool quickly Check food temp Discard food
preparation Yes Clean hands Observe practices Modify practices
Cold storage yes 4 ˚C max Check food temp Discard food

The following table shows some of the temperature requirements and their corrective equivalents.

Coolers should be below 4 Adjust cooler settings.
Freezers should be below 17 Have the freezer serviced.
Food should be above 74 adjust storage unit.

Good Practices.

Food should be cooled in less than 6 hours. 60 to 20 in 2 hours and 20 to 4 in 4 hours.

Do not cover food until completely cool.

Check cooler every two months.

Discard food held for more than 2 hours at temperatures of between 20 to 60.

Food Production Procedures

Now that the food safety plan exists, procedures to prepare various items in the menu should conform to the plan. For this reason, I will provide a documentation of the preparation procedure of a meatloaf sandwich, coffee and egg salad..

Food production procedure: meatloaf sandwich

Meatloaf sandwich is under the No-Cook category.

Ingredients: Onions, butter, Kosher Salt, Apple Butter, Cider vinegar, Hot sauce, Lean ground beef, Eggs.

Delivery of Ingredients:

The delivery of eggs is a critical point, they should not crack. Vegetable delivery is as well a critical point, due to how perishable they are they should arrive on time and be refrigerated on the spot. For the rest of the ingredients delivery is not a critical point

Storage of ingredients:

Some of the ingredients are under the category of vegetables. Onions will be placed in a freezer together with the eggs. The eggs have delivery as their critical point and storage as well. For the onions it is only storage.

Production steps:

Lean ground beef is under the Cook-Hold-Serve. The beef is grilled under good hygiene conditions and maintained at proper temperature until it is used on the sandwich.

This makes the sandwich a Cook-Hold-Serve type of meal as well.

The rest of the ingredients should be stored in a cool dry place in the pantry.

All the ingredients for the sandwiches are assembled on the stainless steel working table in the middle of the kitchen which should be kept hygienic and sanitized. Grill the beef in the oven while marinating it with necessary flavors. Prepare the apple butter sauce and put it on the grill beef, ensure that the temperature doesn’t drop. Once they are done place them in a heated container or the counter display.

Food Production procedure: Coffee.

Ingredients: Coffee beans, sugar, cream.

Delivery of ingredients:

The delivery is not a critical point for any of the coffee ingredients.

Storage of ingredients:

For coffee beans, storage is the critical point. Should be stored under 18 C

Sugar the storage is the critical point as well, a cool dry place.

Production steps:

Grind the coffee, then use a new clean coffee filter and add two tablespoons of ground coffee for every cup of clean water heated to a boil. Add clean filtered water to the reservoir. Coffee should be stored in flasks at a temperature of above 74 C

Food Production procedure: Egg Salad

Ingredients: Eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, green onions, salt and pepper, paprika

Delivery of ingredients:

The delivery of Eggs and green onions is a critical point. They should both be refrigerated at a temperature of below 18 C.

Storage of ingredients:

Eggs and green onions should be refrigerated.

The rest of the ingredients should be kept in a cool dry place.

Production steps:

Place the eggs in a saucepan and boil.

Cover the saucepan and let the eggs sit for 10 minutes.

Remove from water and peel them with clean hands.

Chop the eggs and place them in a clean bowl.

Add mayonnaise, mustard and green onions then season with salt, pepper and paprika to your liking.

Food Cost Percentage

Food cost percentage is useful for estimating what part of your restaurant revenue is spent preparing foods and beverages. In this section I will be reviewing the food cost percentage of certain foods. Calculating food cost percentage helps you to maximize profits and gain insight on the restaurant finances.

Food cost percentage: Hamburger

· Meat – 80 cents

· Tomato – 20 cents.

· Lettuce – 15 cents.

· Onion – 10 cents.

· Aioli – 30 cents.

· Bun – 60 cents.

· Overhead cost – 95 cents.

· Total cost of a hamburger: 3 dollars.

· Selling price: 3.99

· Food Cost percentage: 75%

Food Cost Percentage: Sandwich

· Cheese: 90 cents.

· Tomatoes: 50 cents.

· Sauce: 10 cents.

· Veg: 50 cents.

· Beef: 1 dollar

· Total cost of a sandwich: 3 dollars.

· Selling price: $ 5.10

· Food Cost percentage: 59%

Food Cost Percentage: Coffee

· Coffee: 30 cents

· Milk: 20 cents

· Sugar: 10 cents

· Overhead: 20 cents

· Total cost of a cup of coffee: 80 cents.

· Price of coffee: $2.50.

· Food cost percentage:32%

Staffing Plan

A good staff is essential for the success of a diner. Sizzles are no exception. The hiring process can also make or break your restaurant’s future.

To achieve this, I followed the following steps:

Attract good applicants by advertising job opportunity.

Identify the best applicants.

Vet applicants on some merits and baseline requirements.

Recruit and train.

Positions to fill:

· Line cook – Should have experience.

· Short order cook – Should also have experience.

· Dishwasher/ Bus person. – Minimum wage.

· Server 1.

· Server 2.

Case: Assistant manager staffing process.

1. Post the advertisement on notice boards. Candidates drop applications at the diner.

2. I vet the applications and contact the most qualified on grounds of experience.

3. I organized interview. This helped me asses their personality and general aura. Very important in hospitality

4. Upon interviewing all three applicants, I weigh the pros and cons and contacted the one with the best qualifications and hospitable qualities

Case: Server position staffing process.

1. Post the advertisement.

2. Interview applicants.

3. Decide on the most hospitable ones and the one with the willingness to adapt to different duties as the staff is small.

How has technology influenced ethical decision-making in healthcare?

Please Answer

How has technology influenced ethical decision-making in healthcare?

After your answer, In a separate page Give your opinion on two different paragraph to Tiah Denton and Tiffany Laubach

Tiah Denton

Technology has influenced ethical decision-making in healthcare by the rapidly changing medical technology and availability of high tech and changing practices of doctors over the course of time has evolved the way healthcare is being produced today. Today’s medical technology is more advanced, more effective, and also more costly than ever before. This makes the healthcare industry have an increasing demand for high technology diagnostic facilities to have conflict with medical necessity and social justice which all ties into ethics. Current trends in health care decision making support a transition from a rationale based primarily on resources and opinion to a rationale derived from research.

It is important to recognize the impact of developing a new health care technology within the healthcare system. Demands for increased productivity despite small financial resources brings up cost effectiveness in healthcare. Most issues within decision making are cost versus benefit analysis. It is very difficult to place a dollar value on a person’s life especially when it comes to decisions made within healthcare.

The ethical issues on medical technology and availability are broad. Before any technological changes were made ethics and medicine were not often in conflict. The providing physician would attempt to save lives when he or she could, but technology was limited so this made practicing more along the lines of ethics. Now since technology is available and constantly changing, physicians have the options to keep life going for an unknown periods, undermining distinctions between life and death.

Tiffany Laubach

Interpersonal relationships and data are entwined as fundamental foundations of health care. In spite of the fact that information technology (IT) has done a great deal to advance medicine, we are way off the mark to understanding its maximum capacity. To be sure, issues identified with mismanaging health information undermine relationship-focused consideration. Data innovation must be actualized in ways that save and elevate connections in consideration, while pleasing real inadequacies in overseeing data and settling on therapeutic choices. Increased coordinated efforts between specialists in IT and relationship-centered care consideration is required, alongside incorporation of relationship-based measures in informatics research.

Information technology is starting to encourage numerous connections in medicinal services. Clinicians and patients have uncommon access to health-related information data, including the nation’s bibliographic database of in excess of 12 million references to journal articles in the life sciences. Discovering health-information data is a standout among the most widely recognized employments of the web, and the present patients have turned out to be more dynamic members in the basic leadership process, frequently teaching themselves about accessible interventions identified with their therapeutic conditions preceding seeing their specialists (Ethical Analysis, 2014).

The significance of considering technology’s impact on “social, ethical, legal and other systems” was perceived early and has therefore been for the most part acknowledged. The significance of ethics in HTA depends on three bits of knowledge. To begin with, executing well-being innovations may have ethical outcomes, which legitimizes adding a moral investigation to a “customary” evaluation of expense and viability. Second, innovation additionally conveys values and may challenge common good standards or tenets of society that ought to be tended to by HTA. Third, a more principal knowledge, is that the entire HTA endeavor is esteem loaded. The objective of HTA is to enhance medicinal services, and as social insurance is esteem loaded (in endeavoring to enhance the prosperity of individuals), at that point HTA is esteem loaded as well (Weiner & Biondich, 2006).

2) Be peer-reviewed.

3) Relate directly to defense in depth in the context of protecting National Infrastructure.

Remember that an annotation is not the same as an abstract. Abstracts are descriptive. Your annotations are to be evaluative and critical. Give me enough information for me to decide if I’m interested enough to read the paper, and also how you perceive the paper. Do not go skimpy on these annotations, but DO NOT write too much here. Quality is far more critical than quantity. This exercise is for each of you to demonstrate that you can identify, categorize, and digest multiple research papers.

The resources you choose must be peer-reviewed. That means the paper must have undergone a formal peer review before being published in a journal or presented at a conference. You must ensure that your resources have undergone rigorous reviews. In most cases, you can find out the review process for a conference or journal by visiting the appropriate web site. Do not merely assume that a resource is peer-reviewed – check it out.

Using Sociological Theory To Understand Organizational Change

Using Sociological Theory To Understand Organizational Change

Competency

This competency will allow you to demonstrate your ability to examine organizational changes that are due to technological changes and apply the sociological theory that would explain such change.

Instructions

You have recently started working for a local department store in the Operations Department. Upon settling into your new position, you come to realize that they have outdated business practices. As a department, you and your peers begin to discuss changes that your store could make to help the store become more profitable and more competitive in the marketplace. This leads to discussions about the evolution of business practices at larger corporations such as Apple, Microsoft, Kohl’s, etc. Partway through your discussion, your Director of Operations comes in and joins the conversation. He likes what he is hearing and starts to brainstorm out loud with the group how your store can get “more with the times.”

Knowing that every change within an organization is made for a specific reason, your director asks that you research some of the key theoretical perspectives that would explain how and why organizations change. Because of your sociological prowess from your days in school, you know that you can apply Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory to the reasons for organization change, but your supervisor has asked for a minimum of three theories that would support change.

In addition to conducting research on theoretical perspectives for change, your supervisor would like you to put together some sort of visual representation that demonstrates how each of the theories explains organizational change, and then highlight the one that you think is most applicable to your store. You will be presenting your visual presentation to store management in an effort to provide them information so that they can determine the avenues of change that are most appropriate for your store. Because your supervisor sees the value in the changes to the organization, he has encouraged you to create a presentation that will grab the attention of the audience and that includes both pictorial and written information so that all the audience can easily envision the application of the change to your environment.

For this presentation you are to reflect and address the following information/questions:

  • Provide a brief definition of Conflict Theory.
  • Provide a brief definition of Symbolic Interaction.
  • What changes have been made in various aspects of society (work, school, shopping, etc.)? Explain them through the lens of Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory.
  • How do Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory explain or impact organizational change?
  • Identify at least one other sociological theory, and demonstrate how it applies to organizational change in our society.
  • Of the three identified theories (Conflict, Symbolic Interaction, and the theory of your choice), which theory do you believe best explains organizational changes in our society? Consider various aspects of the organizations that change i.e. technology, online, and face-to-face transactions, local versus global operations, etc.
