Week 5 Worksheet
SPSS Week 5: ANCOVA
Download the data set divorce-studentversion.sav from this week’s resources. Review both the Data View and the Variable View to obtain a general understanding of the data.
This assignment will focus once again on life satisfaction and current family income. Based on a recent review of the literature, the researcher now has reason to believe the number of children is a possible confounding variable in the relationship between life satisfaction and current family income. Since the number of children is part of this data set, the researcher can use number of children as a covariant in an ANCOVA and mediate its impact as a possible confounding variable. In all of the analyses conducted in this assignment, be sure to select the option providing a measure of effect size (Eta) and the homogeneity test (Levene’s test).
Using the General Linear Model/univariate, conduct an ANCOVA to analyze the influence of current family income on life satisfaction with number of children as a co-variant.
Using scholarly writing and proper APA format, complete, and then submit the following:
Present one table showing the results of an ANCOVA based on current family income on life satisfaction with number of children as a co-variant, including Eta.
Provide a narrative discussion of the table, including effect size, the results of the Levene test, and the observed change in the F-value of current family income when the number of children was used as a co-variant.
Include an appendix that contains all SPSS output (copied and pasted) for the items above.

Reporting Statistics in APA Style
Dr. Jeffrey Kahn, Illinois State University
The following examples illustrate how to report statistics in the text of a research report. You will note that significance levels in journal articles–especially in tables–are often reported as either “p > .05,” “p< .05,” “p < .01,” or “p < .001.” APA style dictates reporting the exact p value within the text of a manuscript (unless the p value is less than .001).
Please pay attention to issues of italics and spacing. APA style is very precise about these. Also, with the exception of some p values, most statistics should be rounded to two decimal places.
Mean and Standard Deviation are most clearly presented in parentheses:
The sample as a whole was relatively young (M = 19.22, SD = 3.45).The average age of students was 19.22 years (SD = 3.45).
Percentages are also most clearly displayed in parentheses with :
Nearly half (49%) of the sample was married.
Chi-Square statistics are reported with degrees of freedom and sample size in parentheses, the Pearson chi-square value (rounded to two decimal places), and the significance level:
The percentage of participants that were married did not differ by gender, c2(1, N = 90) = 0.89, p = .35.
T Tests are reported like chi-squares, but only the degrees of freedom are in parentheses. Following that, report the t statistic (rounded to two decimal places) and the significance level.
There was a significant effect for gender, t(54) = 5.43, p < .001, with men receiving higher scores than women.
ANOVAs (both one-way and two-way) are reported like the t test, but there are two degrees-of-freedom numbers to report. First report the between-groups degrees of freedom, then report the within-groups degrees of freedom (separated by a comma). After that report the F statistic (rounded off to two decimal places) and the significance level.
There was a significant main effect for treatment, F(1, 145) = 5.43, p = .02, and a significant interaction, F(2, 145) = 3.24, p = .04.
Correlations are reported with the degrees of freedom (which is N-2) in parentheses and the significance level:
The two variables were strongly correlated, r(55) = .49, p < .01.
Regression results are often best presented in a table. APA doesn’t say much about how to report regression results in the text, but if you would like to report the regression in the text of your Results section, you should at least present the unstandardized or standardized slope (beta), whichever is more interpretable given the data, along with the t-test and the corresponding significance level. (Degrees of freedom for the t-test is N-k-1 where k equals the number of predictor variables.) It is also customary to report the percentage of variance explained along with the corresponding F test.
Social support significantly predicted depression scores, b = -.34, t(225) = 6.53, p < .001. Social support also explained a significant proportion of variance in depression scores, R2 = .12, F(1, 225) = 42.64, p < .001.
Tables are useful if you find that a paragraph has almost as many numbers as words. If you do use a table, do  also report the same information in the text. It’s either one or the other.

Global health issues | Nursing homework help

Many Westerners engage in a high degree of ethnocentrism which is the belief that one’s own culture is superior to all others and that their culture’s way of thinking about the world or doing things is the only correct way. Exceptionalism is evident in the belief that people from other cultures are “under-developed”, “primitive”, or “savages”. Western educational systems generally teach from an “Eurocentric” perspective which means students are mostly exposed to the ideas of old, rich, white, straight, often long-dead men. The social theories that underpin the discipline of global health are no exception. The ideas from amazing scholars from the 84% of the world that is non-Western are not regularly presented to students.
We will be critically analyzing how Western ethnocentrism and exceptionalism regularly creates problems in global health work. Some of the problematic Western ethnocentric and exceptionalist ideas we will consider are: 1) “Doing something is always better than doing nothing”, 2) “I want to be a voice for the voiceless”, 3) “Impoverished people in developing countries always want our help”, 4) “Westerners know best how to help impoverished people in developing countries” and 5) ” People in impoverished countries, who are closest to the problems, are not well-educated and are therefore not capable of developing their own solutions”.
Module Learning Objectives
By the completion of this module, the student should be able to do the following:

Critically analyze and reflect on ideas that challenge the notion of Western ethnocentrism and exceptionalism.
Critically analyze and reflect on the effects of Western ethnocentrism on global health work.

Textbook
Weekly Concepts
Minimum of 1 scholarly source

Scenario/Summary
Betty was an active 24 year-old with a good job at the local University. She helped students navigate the complexities of the FAFSA application process to access monies for their educations. Betty loved her job and attended all of the graduation ceremonies as a final send-off of the students to their dream lives.
In September, Betty started to feel tired and had a low-grade fever. She also experienced some nausea and stomach pain. Worried that she was developing a stomach virus, she stayed at home that weekend and tried to get as much rest as possible. She turned to soft foods to decrease the stomach distress. By Monday, she was feeling a little better and hoped she was on the mend.
However, later in the week, her joints started hurting and her leg muscles were sore. She couldn’t think of anything she had done differently that would account for the muscle soreness and joint pains. She chalked that up to sleeping wrong.
A few months later, the fatigue and weakness returned and she noticed that her hair was breaking easily and thinning, and that she was developing swelling in her legs and face. She also had dry skin and craved eggs and cottage cheese. Betty couldn’t get enough of these two foods. Fearing that something serious may be wrong, Betty scheduled an appointment with her physician.
Her physician ran a battery of tests to determine that Betty was suffering from a hepatitis C virus and was experiencing hypoproteinemia. In particular, her albumin levels were low.
Based on what you’ve learned about blood flow, the liver’s role in production of proteins, and pressure at the capillaries, address the following questions.
Deliverables
Answer the following questions and save your responses in a Microsoft Word document. Provide a scholarly resource to support your answers.

Describe all the constituents contained in plasma and their concentrations.
Explain the liver’s role in production of proteins.
Why would albumin be important in regulating pressure at the capillaries?
Explain the process of fluid movement at both the arterial and venous side of the capillary.
What can Betty do to improve her situation?

Submit your case study document.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

Key Points: Briefly summarize key points that the case raises, such as who was involved; key problems and concerns identified; and questions about corporate social responsibility, public opinion, and/or international business.
Corporate Social Responsibility: Explain how corporate social responsibility, specifically related to employee treatment, is important to a business.
Public Opinion: Explain how the media and public opinion influenced the situation and what lessons a business practitioner can learn from Apple’s experience with how the media and the public can impact business.
