Battery is defined as “intentional contact with another person without that person’s consent”. Do you think parents who use corporal punishment should be guilty of battery? If you think there should be an exception to battery if the victim is a child, do you think this exception should apply if an adult hits ANY child, or only their own? Should there should be other exceptions to battery? If partners hit each other, should that be considered battery, or should that be another exception? Both parents, and abusive partners, will often say they are using physical means to help the victim (that it is in the victim’s “best interests”).
