Week 4 Discussion:
“Is Morality Relative?” Please respond to the following:
Read the article titled “Legal Enforcement of Morality”, located in the online course shell. You may also view the article at http://scholarlycommons.law.northwestern.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=6826&context=jclc. Next, express the necessity of moral judgment in determining what counts as relevant harm, and then identify the appropriate basis for legal sanctions to prevent incidents of relevant harm.
Describe one or two (1 or 2) circumstances in which conscience, guilt, or both serve as motivators resulting in moral actions.
Respond to this post:
Morality is defined as what we know is right and wrong, while relevant harm is defined as harm that occurs because of ones actions. With moral judgment, an officer will make good decisions and thus make good conclusions. The officer’s reasons will be good and true, the conclusion will follow the reason. Law enforcement officers practice moral judgment in any decision regarding criminal charges. They use evidence to support their good belief and then make the arrest, “conclusion.” Sometimes though the evidence doesn’t support the arrest, so it is up to the officer to make the right decision and not force a conclusion based on bad beliefs. This would go against an officer’s moral judgment and create relevant harm. This is why elements of crime are created when charging someone with a crime. The officer can use the elements that make up the crime to support their good belief which will then prevent an incident of relevant harm.
Personally I would feel tremendous guilt in doing wrong in the eyes of God when I knew I was in the wrong would weigh on my conscience heavily. Whether its forgetting to ring something up at the register and going back, or seeing money laying in the street. In both instances I just don’t feel like I need it. I feel that I am being set up and challenged to make the right decision. Knowing that God is always watching is motivation for me to make moral decisions in my life.
POL 110: U.S. Government :
The Ideologies of American Politics
Please respond to the following:
Based on the scenario and the knowledge gained from this section, consider the following:
Identify at least three effects on political ideologies that arise from the existence of only two major political parties in the U.S.
How do THIRD parties affect the two major parties considering their role in the political primary process?
How do the two major political parties compare in terms of actual outcomes of their policies, NOT their stated goals or policies?
How have the two major parties changed over the course of the past several decades? (NOTE: The Live Lectures will help answer this part)
Which party is actually the party of the “rich” and which is the party of the “poor”?
Respond to this post:
Hello and good morning to all! Three effects on political ideologies are that member from both of the parties is that the members from both the parties normally share equal core beliefs. The two parties will create a division of issues which will help to clarify and classify issues that are based on separate and different ideologies. Not too mention that two parties makes it easier to run. The third parties have major influence on the U.S. policy and the political debate despite their minor presence in the Congress. Currently there is only one Senator and the House of Representative is an independent. The ideologies are very similar because of the liberalism they have. They each believe in freedom of liberty for individual people, and free market places.
Slavery was a big issued that lead up to the Civil war which helped the two parties to form and the Great Depression also played a major role that changed over the past decade. This helped shape the parties ideologies. The Republican party dominated most of the south, and most of the new states joined the new states in the west. After the Civil War the Republican Party dominated to the political system for a while. Eventually, all areas of societies reform called progressivism changed all of that.
