One of Robert Stephens’ best practices were anticipating the interconnectivity of IT in the coming decades. Robert’s prediction couldn’t have been spot on. During the last decade, the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought connectivity to the workforce. The IoT is loosely defined as the ability of connected devices either at home or work to increase workers to provide greater levels of efficiency. The benefits of the IoT to the home have been too numerous to count. Households are able to add automation into their daily lives by using networked devices integrated with Artificial Intelligence. Organizations have shared the benefits of improved productivity and increased efficiency.
Another best practice Robert mentions is how people become too comfortable with some technologies. A corporation that has become too comfortable with technology is not allowing themselves to grow. An example of organizations becoming too comfortable with technology would be retail stores using the same POS systems they have had for five or more years. Technology is driven by change and not embracing the change can stagnate growth. An example of an organization embracing technology is when UPS uses data analysis to develop driver routes that minimize the number of left-hand turns which cuts downtime between deliveries.
• Assess the impact that the “ Freedom with Fences” concept, as described by Robert Stephens, would have on the operations of an organization.
In Freedom with Fences, Robert Stephens discusses how “applying meaningful borders to information allows an employee to consume more content.” (Stenzel, 2011) The impact of applying this concept on an organization would mean providing organization members tools that would help take the focus of specific elements of their job to get work down on their own terms. Through the use of technology, an organization can take the pressure off their workers and help the job from being overwhelming. An example of providing a tool to take the pressure off workers, a retail store providing an iPod that doubles as an inventory tool.

Since conflict arises in any corporate, the leader must set achievable goals. The supervisor or the team leader must make sure that he or she set achievable goals for the team. If the leader sets an aim that the crew has no expectation of attaining, the leader will undermine him or herself. Nevertheless, set goals that are easy as well as having a deadline. Set goals that everyone can rejoice achievement at the end.
