Write an approximately three-page evaluative essay on the following topic, which should be about 1000 words. It must respond to the essay prompt and be informed by course material. While consultation of outside-of-class material is acceptable.
Write an evaluative essay on racism and Boxill’s “The Color Blind Principle.” As part of your essay, 1) define racism, and 2) explain the two varieties of racism, personal and institutional. After these preliminaries, 3) evaluate Boxill’s proposal in “The Color Blind Principle” that not being able to choose to identify characteristics about oneself is irrelevant for justice (cf the responsibility criterion). In your evaluation, demonstrate an understanding of his argument, basic ethical concepts, and course material more broadly. 4) Finally, offer at least one plausible argument for or against Boxill’s previously mentioned position that demonstrates an understanding of it.
