Explain: What is the psychology of “WAITING”? Provide a personal example.

Human, in general, don’t have the patience to wait unless they have a diversion where they remain busy during the wait time. Waiting is simply aggravating, demoralizing, and frustrating. It causes tension and is expensive. As the saying goes ” and empty mind is devil’s place”. If you remain empty for more than a certain period you might think of doing things that may not yield good result.
Certain observations related to wait time are:
Occupied Time feels shorter. Distraction of any manner keeps people occupied and hence they may not feel the wait much longer.
Uncertainty makes waiting seem longer: Uninformed wait is larger than an informed one because you can track how much more time is remaining before you get the service.
Anxiety makes the wait seem longer: If you have something important to achieve or somewhere important to go, you may lose out patience if you keep waiting anxiously.
Unanticipated and unexplained waits are worse: If you get to know how much time you have to wait and the reason for the same, you can console yourself with some sort of explanation why you need to wait patiently.
Unfair waits are much more aggravating than equitable waits: If you are waiting in a queue and somebody just comes and joins the same queue in front of you, you become impatient since it resets your waiting time.
Solo waits seem longer than group or social waits: When you are not alone you remain busy or find means to keep yourself busy.
