Part 3 . Take-home exam (50 points).
In this component of the exam, you have three options for demonstrating the historical thinking skill and how it applies to the standards covered in this unit. Students will have approximately 48 hours to complete this task and submit it to Dropbox.
Option 1: write an essay, between 600 and 900 words, Using and the topics included in the essay prompts from this era, explain… ● How and why historians explain the historiography THE CLASSICAL CIVILIZATIONS AND BELIEFS (500 BCE – 500 CE) ● Use examples from topics mentioned in the essay terms to discuss reasons for differences and/or changes among historians’ perspectives. ● Discuss why this historical thinking skill (Historiography) matters and how you would use this concept in teaching the selected era’s history content to your students. Make sure to give specific pedagogical and practical examples of how this would be taught to students using appropriate content standards. Be sure to refer (w/citations) to relevant readings and standards as evidence. Your typed response should be between 600 and 900 words in length. You DO NOT NEED to bring a hard copy unless you would like a graded copy with comments for your portfolio. A copy of the directions and rubric for the Take Home Essay for the Unit 1 Exam is on BeachBoard in the Dropbox. I will have these take-home exams graded ASAP.
Option 2: design a lesson plan Use an appropriate content standard from this unit, along with relevant readings to create a culturally responsive lesson. The lesson should engage students in historical thinking while helping them develop an understanding of the constructed nature of history and how it applies to THE CLASSICAL CIVILIZATIONS AND BELIEFS (500 BCE – 500 CE) ● Include an objective that specifies what the students will learn, how they will show their learning, and why it is important ● The lesson plan should have detailed steps
Option 3: Using Flipgrid ( https://flipgrid.com/hist401 flipcode: Hist401) create a video that explains the historiography of THE CLASSICAL CIVILIZATIONS AND BELIEFS (500 BCE – 500 CE) . ● Explain the historiography of the CLASSICAL CIVILIZATIONS AND BELIEFS (500 BCE – 500 CE). Discuss why this historical thinking skill (Historiography) matters and how you would use this concept in teaching the CLASSICAL CIVILIZATIONS AND BELIEFS content to your students. Make sure to give specific pedagogical and practical examples of how this would be taught using appropriate content standards. The video should be no longer than 5 minutes.
