Intellectual property is to protect the hard earned creations and ideas from unfair competition.It includes the distinctive items that is created and will give you an economic benefit
Types:
-Copyrights:
Copyrights protect the original work of the author and the work must be in a tangible form like piece of paper or in written sheet.Copyrights exists from the momnet it is created and the registration is voluntary.Only the owner has th erights to modify,edit or copy the work.
Eg:literary works,sculptural,pictorial etc
-Patent:
Patent grants the property rights on invention and it allows the patent holder to exclude others from selling or using the invention.The patent holder can take legal actions against someone who copies his invention or design.Protection must be filed within 12 months of release otherwise the opportunity to patent will be gone
-Trademark:
Trademark is a word ,phrase or symbol that uniquely differentiates theproducts or services from competitors.Before registering the trademark,it should be checked whether anyone has used the same trademark in the market.The mark should be distinctive and should have a clear representation and specify the class of goods or services
-Trade secrets:
Trade secret is a formula,device or process or any information that is kept secret to gain a businees advantage over their competitors.There is no time period to disclose the secrets.Trade secrets are used inorder to prevent others from copying your ideas,marks,words etc
