Instruction for National Gallery Meme Discussion
Preparatory Work:
- For this assignment, please go to the website the National Gallery of Art. Find an image of an artwork that concerns a person/people, places, or events that we’ve covered in the book (The American YAWP http://www.americanyawp.com/ We started from chapter 16), in class so far (everyone should be around chapter 24 or so).
- Please start here (Links to an external site.), which should take you to a search of the NGA’s collection from 1860 – 1945.
- Select an image of interest to you, post in the discussion, below, a Chicago style bibliographic citation of that image, as well as the permanent link to that image by using the “Share” button of the museum’s site. Click on Share to get “email.” Click “email” to get the link. Using this library guide link (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) to help with the citation. Look for “Art Found on the Web”
- Using the image you selected, respectfully (humorously) and creatively add some text to your picture to create a historic meme. It can make commentary on the time of the image, or current times. It should be appropriate to a college classroom in tone, message, and language.
- Post here as a pdf, jpg, or gif.
*Please carefully related to the contents of the textbook (from Chapter 16 to Chapter 24) to create a historic meme. Please send me as pdf for the image as well as a Chicago style bibliographic citation of the image.
