Write a 3-5 page paper answering one of the following questions. DUE MAY 23 Topic One: You are a Mathematics Instructor tasked with creating a case study for your students. Write a case parallel in idea to the case titled – Consumers Sometimes Need to do the Math. The case explained a mathematical concept and compared it to psychology – the concept of delayed gratification. Your task is to design a case in the same way for students. At the end of the case, create 6-8 questions and answer them. Implement a project topic at the end of the case and create an outline to address the topic. Reflection: Do you find case studies that pair a mathematical concept to a real life application help portray the idea in a clearer way to students? For example, the case compared the decision to purchasing a specific product to the psychological idea of delayed gratification and then used the example of the fridge as an application. Why or why not?
Topic Two: You are a writer for a journal and you are tasked with a highlight on different cryptography methods used in history and our modern day world. Write about cryptography and how it has been used historically and in our modern day world. Explain what it is, how it is used and highlight 8-10 different methods and their uses. Research and investigate 8-10 occurrences/events where cryptography was used. This could come from a historical or fictional event/time. Familiarize yourself with what happened and be prepared to share it within the journal. For every example – explain the event/method where cryptography was used. When and where did it occur? How did it occur? Why? Who was involved? What was the impact of the coded message? What kind of coding method was used? Reflection: Do you think cryptography is still used today? Highlight the different types of conversions (weights, distances, currencies – for example) – define the different types within each “topic” and explain the applications and method of conversion for each. Reflection: In your opinion, given the advancement of technology and the availability of online convertors – is it necessary/useful to learn how to convert?
