Week 2 Clinical Assignment
Concept: Communication
Objective: Apply the concept of communication to the role of the nurse
Guidelines: Refer to chapter three of the Fundamental book to guide your work. The length should be one to two pages, not more than four pages and not including the title page or reference page.
Evaluation: follow the rubric guidelines.
- Review the common defense mechanisms presented in Table 3-5 of your Fundamentals book and provide an example for each.
- Read the article “Mindful Communication: A Novel Approach to Improving Delegation and Increasing Patient Safety” or “Developing Delegation Skills” from the ANA website (org) located on blackboard under the week 2 course folder in the helpful resources folder and report on how communication enhances patient safety.

- The workbook contains your paperwork for each week along with grading rubrics and helpful information.
- The Wellness clinical is to meet the objectives by connecting the course content to the clinical site experience.
- The clinical experience focuses on the introduction to nursing as a discipline with an emphasis on the concepts of wellness, communication, lifespan, clinical judgment and physiologic processes.
- The instructor will guide the experience and no skill or task is to be completed without the instructors’ approval.
- The weekly-completed work is due to your instructor, by drop box, the Saturday following the clinical experience by midnight with the grading rubric included.
- The drop box is located under drop boxes on the course blackboard site under clinical resources.
- If you do not receive a satisfactory with the first submission the faculty comments can be addressed and the paper may be resubmitted a second time to reach a satisfactory grade. After the second submission an unsatisfactory is given and the student must set up a meeting with the course lead faculty to discuss a plan of action for the work.
- You will be rotating to three different clinical sites with 20 hours at each site.
- Assignments (included in the workbook) will be completed at each site. There will be no clinical assignment for week 3, week 6, and week 9.
