Read from “Transformational Leadership” down to “Will Students Read the Call?” and consider a few questions for discussion:
1. When discussing leadership at the entry-level what do the authors mean when they say to be an advocate “with a singular voice?” As I am working towards this doctorate, what changes (if any) do I expect to see in myself as a leader within my institution?
2. The authors state that “nurses at all levels need strong leadership skills to contribute to patient safety and quality of care. Yet their history as a profession dominated by females can make it easier for policy makers, other health professionals, and the public to view nurses as “functional doers”—those who carry out the instructions of others—rather than “thoughtful strategists”—those who are informed decision makers and whose independent actions are based on education, evidence, and experience.” What does that mean to me? What does it mean to be a thoughtful strategist?
