Corrosion is found in water pipes, water treatment devices and various appliances. Corrosion is also a problem for certain grades of stainless steel and can be of even greater concern for old fashioned systems. Although water transmission pipeline safety record has been improving over time, human casualties, property loss, and environmental damage resulting from pipeline incidents are infrequent, when they do occur the consequences can be significant.
Corrosion exists because metals are used in environments where they are chemically unstable and reacts with other substances such as soil and water. Metals with a more negative Standard Electrode Potential are more likely to corrode relative to other metals such as zinc (Zn). Also, Increasing Temperature speeds up oxidation/reduction reactions and increases corrosion. Corrosion can occur in Ductile Iron and Steel pipes which are used in water transmission companies .
The proposed solution is a two-dimensional process; the first dimension is installing a technology called Scale-Buster in the pumping station of TRANSCO due to the high percentage of corrosion. To combat corrosion and scale while the second dimension is applying corrosion meter from the provider which is COSASCO to detect corrosion without the help of the works.
