Question2. Relate three artists from the ages of European history their similarities and differences.
Renaissance art marks a rebirth of culture from the middle ages. One of its distinguishing characteristics from the other two is that it was developed from a highly realistic linear perspective such as that of Leonardo Da Vinci of studying human anatomy. A notable similarity would be seen in the choice of color. Again, they all lacked an understanding of how to represent the human body as the church considered it sinful; as a result, Leonardo began changing some of his works. Medieval and Renaissance art also focused mostly on religious themes.
Some researchers observe renaissance as the rebirth of the classical period, the realism of Greek statues inspired artists during the renaissance. For example, Michelangelo’s work where he represented a young shepherd who killed Goliath with a sling can be seen in Hermes with the young Dionysus by Parallaxes during the Renaissance. Again, the sculpture of Apollo Belvedere by Montessori is thought to be a second-century copy of an original from Greece by classical artist Phidias.
Renaissance art paid more attention to the human body. Medieval such as “the Notary of Peruvian writing a document” has no in-depth meaning. Notably, everyone in the picture has the same face. However, that by Titian of Christ the Redeemer looks to give more attention to detail as one can see the shadowing in the painting and also evident in the behavior of the fabrics. The background is also clearly separated from the fore ground. Medieval work presents faces without expressions while renaissance fills expression and emotions. Unrealistic and mostly stiff poses are also observed in the middle age while the rebirth has more lifelike and realistic poses. The earlier period contains many mistakes this could be because of use of Tempura which dried too quickly to correct. However in the renaissance oil paints were used which prevented such (Cole, 2018).
Question3. How religion affects political structures and art.
Religion has more similarities than differences. For, example they all promote peace and non violence. They also advocate for unity in humanity despite the differences that exist of color and geographic location. Like Christians, Buddhists note that we must love our enemies as well. Across the major beliefs obtain reverence from a supernatural being. Since God’s name cannot be pronounced as God because He cannot be put in any form of limits, He is simply referred to as “I AM”. Also evident is the Faith that God is usually in the midst of men in Christianity, Buddism and Islamism.
However, they possess differences in their reference to historical, spiritual leaders, Christianity has Jesus, and Muslims have Muhammad while Buddhists have Buddha. Politics has long been affected by religion. For example, wearing a hijab is an issue in most Islamic countries while states such as Taiwan do not consider it. In the same way, Christianity was instrumental in stopping slavery in the United States while Buddhists in Vietnam opposed oppression during the colonial period. Historically due to the low literacy levels in people, art was used as a method of communication. Notably, all major religions have represented such as the statue of Buddha and the Jesus the Redeemer constructed during the Renaissance. Most beliefs are however now not focusing much on the direct messages of their Holy books but are promoting individual morality. This has represented on how religion is being revised ( Jakelic, 2016).
