As a financial administrator, I would ensure to have a special contingency fund for such patients which can not afford treatment. In case II, EMTALA mandates the hospital to treat the patient in any case. The burden of treatment will be borne by the hospital. However, maintaining the special contingency fund as described above will help the hospital to bear such costs.
The significant factors in the case I is the cost of treatment, patient’s medical condition, nature of illness and presence of any other legal issues. In case II, it is the potential risk to the life of patient, complaince to the regulations and presence of medico- legal issues.
