1. PurposeThis individual assignment is to assess your understanding of the interaction between IT and business and the way IT influences the development of corporate strategy. You will have an opportunity to describe and discuss various environmental factors that form part of the strategic IT planning process and also critically formulate, analyse and evaluate IT strategies. You will be required to demonstrate your ability to apply theories, concepts and a range of tools and techniques to real-word situations. You will also be required to explain the rationale and methodologies for appropriate utilisation of IS/IT resources at the corporate strategic level. Overall, the assignment will enhance your skills as a business IT specialist, in establishing a framework for developing, analysing and evaluating information systems strategies, and in gathering information effectively. More generally it will develop your problem solving and project management skills.2. Assessment Regime and DeliverablesThe assessed coursework will be based on a company of your choice from any industry/sector. You will be required to produce a weekly report of no more than 400 words to cover the tasks given by your tutor. The work set each week must be submitted to the VLE (Moodle) by 5pm on the following Wednesday. Each week your tutor will provide a set of tasks relevant to that week’s lecture topic. These tasks will be approached through group discussions in which your participation will be assessed, counting towards your final grade. You need to demonstrate an ability to present your arguments, and interact effectively with your team members and the rest of the group. Formative assessment – your tutor will check your work in Week 6 and provide feedback based on the Marking Scheme, and again in Week 9 to see whether there is any improvement. You will need to compile all your weekly submissions into one single file (in Word or PDF format), organised by weekly lecture topic and move all references into one section. At the end of the report you will need to include a Personal Reflection of 300 words. Here you will explain what you have learned from the assignment, the approaches you have employed in research and any difficulties you have encountered when applying tools and techniques, gathering and analysing, etc. You need to be critical, with reference to actual events and incidents, setting out what went well, what went wrong and what could have been done differently
