1. Pick a health issue, about which you would like to learn more. You may use a topic we covered/will cover in class or pick an issue from the book. Note: you must be able to identify three community resources that are available to support individuals who are affected by your chosen issue.
2. Research your topic and resources: Find sources that provide basic information on your chosen health issue and look for community resources that are available for support. You must choose five (5) resources:
Resources #1-4 must be physical organizations LOCAL to our community (for students who live outside the Hampton Roads area, you may choose resources local to your community)
Resource #5 must be an online resource* NOTE: this MAY NOT simply be a website for one of your local resources. It must be an organization the offers ONLINE support (i.e. online blogs, support groups, referral services, etc.)
3. Prepare a paper on your topic. The paper should be 4-6 pages typed face with 12 pt. font, single-spaced within paragraphs and double-spaced between paragraphs. The margins of the paper should be one-inch. The paper should include the following:
Introduction to the topic: Define and describe your health topic. Include data to describe the issue. Make a case as to why this issue should be important to others based on data.
Scope of the Problem: Give a brief overview of the issue and scope of the problem, to include prevalence, statistics, populations affected, etc. Must include at least three (3) significant data points to support your argument.
Community Resources: Give an overview of your five chosen community resources, to include: name of organization, location and hours of availability (for local resources), services provided, populations served, and any other pertinent information such as the type of agency (not for profit, for profit, federal, local), background information (i.e. when it was founded and by whom) and website address.
Health Innovation: In two paragraphs, provide a potential idea for one of your community resources to “fix” the problem. Identify which community resource you would like to provide an innovative idea. Give a detailed overview of your innovation including cost for product development, cost to the consumer and how the tool works at the organization and the consumers who will use it. Your solution could be new website, new technology, new phone app, new service, new product, new medication, etc. Describe how your innovation differs from what already exists at the chosen resource.
Conclusion: What is the take home message for individuals regarding this topic?
Citation Information: Provide in text citations and a reference page in APA or MLA format.
