This is for a discussion question in my healtcare management course, any help is greatly appreciated. Two physician-researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health. Byrd and Clayton paint a complex and disturbing picture of a healthcare system that itself perpetuates racism in health care in three distinct ways: by not destroying the myth that minority Americans should be expected to experience poorer health relative to Caucasians; by organizing itself as a private, for-profit system that marginalizes the indigent and minorities; and by refusing to acknowledge the historical and ongoing problem of racial exclusion in health care. Discuss whether you believe that this is still the case in 21st century America. If so, why does this practice still persist? Identify and discuss 2 ways we can change our system to be inclusive of all citizens regardless of race, gender, culture, and other identifying factors Thanks

Racism in Healthcare in America is sometimes said to be just as common as racism in law enforcement.
While people are not denied entry into Healthcare facilities based upon their colour or race, they often do not receive the similar standard of care and treatment as there Caucasian counterparts.
Unconscious racial biases are prevalent across different levels of Healthcare facilities in America, even in the 21st century.
The American journal of Public Health in 2012 conducted a research which tried to understand the existence of racial bias. The study found that almost two thirds of the doctors had a racial bias and associated several traits with race.
Researchers found that the white Health Care givers had a General belief that white patients were more compliant, however no such bias towards any race was observed in non white health care facilitators.
Communication which the doctors have with the patients, also has varied for white and black patients, like a white doctor at times lectures a black patient and speak slowly to the white patients.
Some studies have also found that black patients are given lighter doses of pain treatment medicines and the treatment is also much less as compared for the white patients.
Lack of diversity training is one of the main reasons for such racial bias to exist even today. The people working in Healthcare facilities should be trained to accept the diversity and do not have any bias towards the patients, bases their colour, race or ethnicity.
Healthcare has no place for discrimination, hate, stereotypes or marginalisation.
Positive profiling is one of the ways which may reduce the biases and inequalities which exist in the health care delivery system. Doctors and nurses can use evidence to remove the barriers to Healthcare delivery and implement strategies which solve the problem of reduced referrals, suboptimal treatment, delayed Healthcare provided to non whites.
