Society is aware of what is happening all around in the meat market, but not a single person wants to do anything about the horrid situation regarding animals and the market for cheap meat. I am guilty of being ignorant to the facts. Sustainable living and mindful eating is a reliable solution to this problem. We are more apt to make reliable choices and be aware of what is going on around us in the realm of the food market. Eating conscientiously can play a significant role in how the food market progresses in the coming years. The foods that I choose to eat should resemble my beliefs and reflect humane laws that should be implemented in society against harsh treatment towards animals in factories. Throughout all this trouble and turmoil however, there are signs of positive change as we have the capability to think before we eat. We can make mindful decisions on what we chose to put into our bodies.How can I use the information in the chapter to help me with my daily mindful eating practice? I can use the information contained in this chapter to help me with my daily mindful eating practice by choosing to limit the amount of meat products I consume. When I eat unhealthy amounts of animal protein including hamburgers, I find myself falling into a more stressed and anxious state of mind. When I focus on eating plant based foods and limit the amount of food I consume that comes from animals, I feel rejuvenated and ready to take on any exam at school. I think the point of this chapter is to learn process of factory production of animal protein as well as learning about how animals are treated in the process. By the end of this chapter it will be easier for the reader to decide whether or not this matter. At the end it not about what we eat, but knowing what we eat and where your it came from.In the process of making decision, there are important information we need learn such as learning about animal welfare in the context of our food and eating decisions. For me, before learning about animal welfare and how bad animals can be treated, I used to eat without thinking how that food got to be so cheap. Yes, it can be because it is not healthy. However, it is also so cheap because it takes millions of animals to be stolen from their mother right after born, it takes millions of animals to be crammed together in filthy and unsanitary conditions which make them unhealthy for us because all of the diseases they can have, and it takes millions of animals to be treated very inhumanly in many ways in the process of slaughtering. Thinking by all of that, it makes me feel just as much as inhuman the workers in big food factories just because I was part of them by making the decision of eating their food. The reason of making this change is that for me to pay for a product it means that I am a supporter of that company doings which I am not. I was always taught by my parents that animals shouldn’t be abused and to be always mindful about the smallest details when it comes to animals. I was taught, to be nice with animals because that is human and because also my religion always taught us to be human with all god creating. Moreover, saving money on food should not be the first thing to come to my mind when I shop for food but instead I should be mindful about what I eat by thinking of where it came from and how. Also by embracing mindfulness to help me be awake, aware, and alive. For me, embracing mindfulness is one of the tools I just mentioned as well as being aware of the labels on meat products specially the ones that says “certifies organic”, “free ranged”, “grass fed”, “cage free”, “certified human”, “5 step animal welfare rating system”, and finally “hormone free, rBGH free, rBST free and no hormones added”. One last tool that can help, is where I should shop from. For example, by shopping from Whole Food supermarket, I can be fully comfortable with food I will have since it they source many of their products from local producers with higher animal welfare and sustainable standards. What are your thoughts and feedback regarding the information and the activities in this chapter?I only have one comment about the information in this chapter which is that unfortunately, some people know how animals can be treated on those big company farms and that they are might be using false labels. However, they choose to ignore that because of how cheap are their products even regardless to how unhealthy they can be. Also I think there are people who are blindly follow what companies advertise and think what activist are doing is just not true because they are some vegans who are trying to change everyone mind which is totally wrong.
