Vaccine Essay Immunology Assignment
The current model for acquired immunity is a well established immunological model. The model for acquired immunity in humans has been used to establish a vaccination program for children and adults throughout the world. We have discussed the roles of antigens, antibodies and lymphocytes which are all essential parts of acquired immunity.
Here is the situation:
Your next door neighbor is in trouble. She is a strong supported of the anti-vaccine movement and has chosen to not vaccinate her children. However, according to the school policy, her children cannot attend school without being vaccinated.
Your task:
Part 1 To get started read the first two articles. What advice do you give to your neighbor and what would you tell her? Your mission is to first explain the importance of immunization. What are the consequences of vaccination or not getting vaccinated? Use your facts and knowledge you gained from the Biology 2 course. Write the article in a nuanced manner, introduce both the pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine positions and then justify why you believe in one. Explain the important key points about the vaccination model for protecting from disease. What are the strengths and weaknesses of vaccination? Cite your facts using in text citations!
Part 2 You have presented your information to your neighbor. After you give her your advice, she gives you the last two articles to read: Swine flu vaccine can trigger narcolepsy, UK government concedes and Swine flu jab and narcolepsy may be linked by autoimmune response. She is scared that the standard set of vaccines given in Sweden will hurt her children. What is your response to these second two articles. What do you tell her?
