In this week’s assignment, use the recording software Vocaroo to record a mock interview with the legendary basketball coach Pat Summit. Imagine you were just hired as the new Athletic Director at BlueAyes University. Your school has failed to meet Title IX requirements in participation rates, facilities, and sports offerings. You also notice there are only two female coaches on your entire staff and only one female in a senior leadership position within the athletic department. To assist you in developing a Title IX compliance plan for BlueAyes University, you have asked Pat Summit for an interview since she has been significantly associated with the Title IX movement. In preparation for your interview, develop 10 to 15 questions for Pat Summit; then answer each question as if you were Pat Summit. Be creative with your interview questions. All questions and answers must be based on research and the readings from this week. Within your interview, you will need to briefly cover the history of Title IX, any appropriate legislation as well as significant court cases involving Title IX, and the progression of gender equity in sports. You should address the topic of declining rates of female coaches and the lack of female sports administrators. Include recommendations for athletic administrators to decrease gender discrimination and to encourage females to enter collegiate coaching and administrative positions. Finish your interview with a plan for teaching gender equity in and through sports. Ensure you discuss how Title IX pertains to you as an athletic director and BlueAyes University. In your voice recording, indicate when you are acting as the athletic director and when you are acting as Pat Summit.
