Which type of search do you think is better for the company, the Contingency Search or the Retained Search? Which type is better for the candidate?

The retained search is better for the company as they are paid to perform research, by an employer to find good pool of qualified candidates through search or employee referral programs. The retained search is carried out thoroughly to fulfill the need of hiring senior executives and provide the candidates to fulfill the staffing needs with long term preview.
The contingency search is better for candidates and this is paid by the employer when the candidate is hired however this is a less profit process. In contingency search there is lot of risk involved and to overcome, it is important to develop relations with various candidates. This type of search is useful for staff level hiring process.
