Research is involved in this assignment. Begin by reading the directions twice. Carefully examine the student model. Follow directions to the tee. Save in ALL CAPS (example below).

Not to worry if you have never created a PowerPoint. Go straight to YouTube. You’ll find several short instructional videos that make it easy. Working from a Mac? Not to worry. You may compose and submit your presentation in Keynote and I can open it on my Mac.
Important! If you create your PP in Prezi or Keynote, you must download it as a PowerPoint with file extension pptx.
The purpose of this assignment is to kick-start your investigation into a desirable career. I recognize that some of you aspire to careers in professional sports or the arts. (I’d love to be a movie star–or Super Bowl quarterback.) Don’t give up the dream. Aspire! But for this assignment, choose a more mundane career–your fall-back plan, as it were–coaching, teaching, nursing, the business world, etc.
Minimum 10 slides plus source slide with minimum of three sources (11 total). Maximum 12 slides plus source slide (13 total). I.e., you must create 11-13 total slides.
The title slide names your career choice. Be specific! Electrical Engineer (not Engineer); Registered Nurse (not Nurse); High School Chemistry Teacher (not Teacher). Under the name of your career, double space, center, and write the word “by.” Double space again and type your name. You may include a graphic illustration on the title slide.
All other slides must include text. Include graphic illustrations on a minimum of four slides.
Be creative–not overly fancy. Avoid color schemes that assault the eyes. Flaming red–BAD; plain white–not so good; red and black–good. Do NOT change color or design scheme from slide-to-slide.
Write bullet phrases–NOT sentences–including slide titles! Capitalize the first word in each phrase. Try to start your phrases with a verb. E.g.: Earn a certificate in Occupational Therapy from Panola College)
For this assignment, you may use a 14 or 16-point font other than Times New Roman. AVOID leaving a lot of blank space on the slide.
ADD graphics (artwork) to at least four slides but all slides must include textual information. Slides that contain only a picture or drawing will NOT count toward your minimum ten slides (plus sources). Superior work will have graphics from two or more sources and include tables, timelines, pictographs and pictures. Do not obscure text with your graphics.
Keep the verbiage brief, three or four bulleted phrases per slide at most. Write phrases, not sentences:

Bad: I will graduate Panola College in June, 2020.
Good: Graduate from Panola College, June, 2020
Here are some topics you may research. You may use these as slide titles:
Job Description or Nature of the Work (What do you do in this job?)
Requirements (two slides: personal and educational)
Personal Background and Skills
Occupational Outlook (opportunities for employment)
Salary Information or Pay Scale (lots of good graphics available)
Benefits (insurance, 401K, retirement, education); many government jobs provide for retirement after only twenty years
Working Conditions (physical and psychological) Does the job entails lots of pressure or a relaxed environment?
Career Advantages and/or Career Drawbacks
Advancement Opportunities (Be sure to mention salary increases and other perks.)
These are just a few of many possibilities. Remember to write the title of the slide as a phrase, NOT a sentence.
Re-read these directions (three minutes)and examine the student model (three minutes) before beginning your PowerPoint.
Proofread your presentation for typos, spelling errors, and misstatements. Write phrases, NOT sentences, including the slide title.
Let it “cool” a day or so and proofread a second time.
Submit your assignment here. Use file extension pptx.
Save in ALL CAPS with file extension pptx: Here is an example: STUDENT_CAREER PP.pptx (Use your own last name–NOT Student.)
