Institute of Medicine (IOM) Policy Paper: The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health (2011). You will review the information from The Institute of Medicine web site to complete a policy paper. You are to use at least one government policy to support your viewpoint on the challenges that face the nursing education system and some of the solutions that will be required to advance the system.
Access and read the areas of the IOM report that are required for the assignment (transforming practice, transforming leadership and transforming education). Your assignment is to determine how registered nurses may work to impact health care change through education, leadership and practice in order to move the profession into the 21st century. Major factors to be included in the assignment are:
a) Discuss some fundamental roles that nurses should play in the transformation of the healthcare system.
b) Is transforming nurse education from 50 % to 80% of nurses with a Bachelor of Science degree (BSN) by 2020 realistic? Why/why not?
c) What conclusions do you draw concerning the IOM report as it relates to clinical /professional practice?
d) Incorporate and integrate the government policy that supports or refutes your position about the mission of this report.

The organization named Campaign for Action for Action has a lot of information which will be extremely helpful. You can read about this organization. You will find a lot of information related to the IOM report.

This is the information in Week 8 when you will be submitting this assignment. It is very similar to what is in the syllabus.

Use the information from Week 2 and any additional information that has been used in this course. Do not forget to relate a policy to your discussion. When submitted, your paper will go through a plagiarism program called CopyLeaks. You have the ability to look at how much of your materials are “directly quoted”. So take the time to review this percentage prior to final submission. These assignments will help you meet course student learning outcomes 2 and 5.
