Employee has no right to sue the firm on grounds of not accommodating his request for weekly off on Saturday on grounds of religious practices. Firm’s policies and code of conduct should be common to all the employees irrespective of their position, gender, age, religion etc. Tweaking the policies for the sake of select few will result in similar demands from other employees. Firms can only accommodate any such requests if they do not impact the firm’s business or create any undue hardships according to Title VII of the Civil rights Act of 1964. Giving a day off for an employee’s religious practices will not only result in a day loss of manhours for the business but has a possibility of retaliation from other employees who might find their own religious reasons to raise similar requests.
