  • Regarding article #1 and article #4: Why is the shadow economy a challenge for governments? Discuss and be specific. Discuss how the author suggests these challenges can be addressed?  Why would these steps be difficult to implement in countries like Georgia and Peru?
  • Why has the operation and structure of a shadow economy become an important focus of economic study?
  1. Reflection – the students also should include a paragraph in the initial responsein their own words reflecting on specifically what they learned from the assignment and how they think they could apply what they learned in the workplace.

Formatting and Presentation:

(2) Responses to other students should be posted by Friday, 11:00 pm each week

You are to respond with value-added comments  (refer to the Discussion Rubric for value-added guidance) to at least two of your classmates by Friday of each week; however, the latest you can post is Sunday of each week (see the Discussion Rubric for the sliding grade scale on posting). You are also encouraged to respond to other students. Note: your response to my follow up question(s) is/are part of this grade. If I ask you questions, you have until Sunday to post your response to my question(s). 

Presentation format: (46%)

In order to receive full credit your original discussion contribution must be at least 300 words, and you are to (1) quote article(s) material, as is appropriate (cannot exceed 20% of your total writing), in support of your analysis (the quoted material is not your analysis), (2) Week 1 module content should also be used to support and give credence to your comments, and (3) quoted, paraphrased or summarized material should acknowledge sources (i.e. article/text book) within the text of your discussion post, as well as in a reference list at the end of your discussion in accordance with accepted citation practices. Note: it is usual to have at least 5-7 citations embedded within an original post.  (4) Articles used should be cited using APA format. Textbook references should cite the page(s) used. Episodes used should indicate the episode/title.

  • For an APA resource reference go-to Content-> Student Toolkit, and you will see APA resources, along with the Discussion/Research paper rubrics.
  • Also, (a) to demonstrate your comprehension of the topic, please focus on using economic vocabulary, (b) and supporting your remarks with clear examples, and (c) always edit (grammar, punctuation, spelling) your response before submitting.
  • If you make a factual statement, use data or examples from the text or articles or draw a conclusion using text/article material it requires a specific citationwithin the body of your discussion (to include page number), If you quote directly from the text or article you must cite the source.
