This module has two assessment components with specific weightings and marks awarded
totalling 100%. The purpose of each assessment is as follows:

Assessment 1 – 40% (Individual) 
Assessment 2 – 60% Examination 

Assignment Specification: 
Instructions: (3000 words) 
You are to select an appropriate organisation that you have access to. This will most likely be the organization that you currently work for. The organization may be a private, a public or a voluntary organization. You may want to focus on a unit, sub-division or even a
department within the organization, particularly if the organization is very large or operates on an international or global scale.
You will need access to at least one key informant and access to some level of company documentation (for example, annual reports, web site, publicity material or other materials, if they are available to you). You may disguise the real identity of the organization by using a fictitious name if you prefer. Introduce the organization. Give a brief description of its background, vision, mission and
current strategies.
Undertake a systematic diagnosis of the organisation (or unit / sub-division / department), with
a focus on the following:

A brief analysis of the organisation’s internal environment.
An identification of the key problem(s) / inefficiencies facing the organisation

or the opportunities or activities with good scope for improvement.

An identification of the underlying source(s) of the problem(s) and any cause and effect relationships between the problems identified. Based on the diagnosis you have made, identify specific intervention(s) to address the problems you have identified and explain why you believe the intervention(s) you have selected are appropriate.

Students are expected to complete all assignments ensuring that they are submitted by the
specified date. All submissions must be typed, be well laid out, written in an academic style
with appropriate headings (introduction, main part and concluding comments) and sections.
➢ Students are expected to exhibit the following competences:

Knowledge and understanding of key concepts,
Analysis and level of argument,
Extent of reading and references used,
