Managing E-Commerce Web Sites

Prototype Deployment and Maintenance

E-commerce Web sites require a lot of maintenance and updates. There are typically a lot of dynamic data on the site, ranging from product information, pricing, and customer data to support and overall Web site operation. The final step in developing the e-commerce Web site is preparation for deployment and maintenance.

Once you complete this assignment, your prototype e-commerce site will be finished. You will have created the implementation plan including requirements, design, branding, database integration, deployment, and maintenance.

In this stage of the project, you will add a plan for the deployment and maintenance of your e-commerce site and you will add some type of functionality to your prototype to assist in the administrative tasks that might be necessary with your site.

The project deliverables are as follows:

Add a new section to the E-Commerce Implementation Plan, titled “Prototype Deployment and Maintenance”
Describe how the site will be deployed into the operational system.
Discuss the maintenance tasks necessary to keep the site operational and up-to-date
Review the entire document for any changes and improvements that you would like to make.
Ensure that this final version of the plan is sufficiently detailed to allow the software developers to move forward with the project.
Any previous instructor feedback should be addressed with appropriate changes.
Make one change to your prototype site to support maintenance. For example, add functionality to delete customers who have not logged in for a specified time period. This might not be possible if your system does not track last login. It is just an example of functionality you might try to add. It is possible you break the code and are not able to complete this step. Spend no more than 2 hours on this step. Regardless of the outcome, include a discussion of what you attempted, what you learned about the code from the attempt, and the outcome of the attempt. Important: Before making changes to your prototype site, make a backup of the entire project.
Correct any code issues with the prototype site before submission.
Summarize the lessons learned about the prototype e-commerce site throughout the course.
Be sure to update your Table of Contents before submission.
Name the document as follows: yourname_ITSD325_IP5.doc
