Discussion Answer:

Hello, How are you?

Long time no see! I’m finally getting into a career I’ve always been passionate about. I just recently got accepted to one of the most promising programs to be a future Nurse Practioner. I decided to advance my nursing career as a family nurse practitioner so that I can practice at the professional level and give my patients the best health care imaginable. I believe our world is in need of qualified practitioners that will concentrate on health care and disease prevention. American Nursing Association (2011) states that “Nurse Practitioners (NP) in their practice, take physical and histories; diagnose and treat common acute illnesses and injuries; give immunizations; manage high blood pressure, diabetes, and other chronic conditions; order and interpret x-rays and other laboratory tests; counsel patient on disease prevention and healthy lifestyles; and refer patients to other health provides as needed. In response, Congress included a number of provisions in the ACA to reinforce primary care provided by NPs, which has been revealed to be equivalent to similar care provided by physicians.

To become a Nurse Practioner takes a lot of work. To be a NP takes a couple of years of schooling. First you need to earn your RN credentials. This could be attainable by a nursing program that rewards a certificate, or associates, or bachelor’s degree and then dominating the NCLEX state license exam. It is possible to become an RN without earning a four-year degree in nursing, but to pursue to be an NP you need to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. You also need to gain experience in a hospital setting depending on what NP program you apply for. All states want NPs to be licensed. You’ll be required to pass a national certification exam. Depending on your interests, you may choose to work as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), an Oncology Nurse Practitioner (ONP), an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or any other career path. “Becoming a nurse practitioner can be a personally satisfying career that many nurses aspire to. And national data reveals that it can be a rewarding career in terms of salary. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), nurse practitioners were paid a median salary of $98,190 in May 2015.”

NPs offer a different approach of nursing and medical care, who try to make patients have better decision making when it comes to health care and lifestyle decisions. NP’s focus on direct patient care as a whole when trying to treat the specific problems a patent has. The NP truly impact patient care immensely.

“In 2010, 52 percent of NPs were working as primary care providers, and they are key components of patient-centered care in rural communities. Continuing to deliver high-quality health care means continuing to include NPs as an integral part of the primary care provider workforce.”
