What argument is Riis making in this work?
Riis in his books is giving a picture of our society. He is trying to show that how our society is divided into rich and poor people and how the rich is becoming more richer and poor people is suffering for basic needs. He is also trying to bring forward the picture of how living in urban areas is like in now days. He is saying that more and more people are living as tenets in a house and with rapid increase in population how this concept is affecting the life style of the society.
In my opinion, Riis work is a reliable because with his thoughts about harsh reality of the society he is also managed to document the pictures of the people living in such conditions. He used his pictures as proof of his work.
Who is his audience?
According to my opinion, he is targeting the people who have an upper hand in society, how can look at the harsh reality of the society and make them believe them and how they can make a change in the society. He is also trying to put his work in front of government officials who can try to solve the problem of the society.
