What if courses vary in length. When you sign up, you don’t know how long a course will run; it might go for 2 weeks or 30 weeks. The instructor can end the course at any time with no prior warning. The length of the course changes each time it meets: sometimes its 20 mins and others its 3 hours. All exams are unannounced, so you have to be ready at anytime. Describe, first, how you might feel if you discovered, after the fact, that your school operated this way. Focus on FEELINGS, emotion rather than facts. Then say what would need to happen at this school, or at another school you might switch to, to prevent you from feeling this way. Tie this back into how an employee might feel in this enviornment and what a manager might be able to do to help that employee become effective and high-performing. Remember change is all about perceptions and emotions. 0.5-1 page in length

Generally, the first few days are “honeymoon days” in a school or in an office. My first feeling when I see that the class ends in 20 mins, would be happiness. As class starts in full swing, I’ll be tensed to see that classes are ending that early. Finally I’d be more concerned if the class timing keeps shifting because I won’t be able to focus neither on my studies nor preparing for exam. If I spend more time in the class, I won’t be able to prepare my notes nor will I be able to practice enough for the exam. I too might have the feeling that we are not being taught properly or that the teacher is utilizing the class timings for his personal work and then contributing time for our study when he is free. Ending the course at any time won’t contribute to my learning. I need to know how the schedule is distributed else I won’t be able to manage my study and daily chores. For unannounced exams, first it will be a shock, my scores might be low, but post that I will try to keep myself ready for the exams so that whenever any exam is conducted I should be prepared to score good in the exam.
As an employee, I shouldn’t be more concerned, because in school our class timings are limited, we have other priorities too. In office we are ever ready, ready to extend our office hours. We prefer flexible hours in office. Somedays I am willing to work for 4 hours while on some days I’d prefer to work for 12 hours if my work needs that amount of time contribution for me. In office, our performance decides our growth. Hence time won’t be a limitation to my growth. If my work requires such flexible hours, I feel my manager should be supportive enough to let me work accordingly, acknowledging the fact that I am willing to and do contribute time beyond office hours when I have to. My manager should arrange for my growth related activities such as training as per my schedule.
