I need a discussion response to my peers post Employee training and development is very important in today’s society, it created a great impact on organization, it help to identify and address weakness, improved employees performance, consistency and satisfaction. According to research; “training and development program have the advantage over employees in other company who are left to seek out training opportunity on their own” (Mazenod, A. 2013). “In today’s economy employees have less loyalty to an organization and are quite willing to move to another organization to advance their careers” (Blanchard, P.N. & Thacker, J. 2013). In addition, to keep valuable employees in this competitive job market organization have taken the interest of their employees more seriously; they implement additional training and give employees the opportunities to enhance their skills. According to the text, “an important part of the development process is to offer to help employee develop skills for the future (personal development), not just for present job” (Blanchard, P.N. & Thacker, J. 2013). In addition, there has been a big emphasis on management training, the best qualities can be attain in any manager or leader when they have to face adversity, criticism, disappointments, pain, anger and ultimately rise out of those situation, a better person, stronger and unscathed. For example, a recent incident at my workplace required management to implement lunch schedule for the department. During lunch hours which are from noon to 2:00 p.m., it became obvious; everyone was leaving and returning at various times. This started to impact staffing, because no one was available to respond to incoming phone calls on our hotline. This was a dedicated phone line and because of these issues, numerous escalations ensued. Management knew the backlash would be very vocal, especially from senior staff members. Therefore, they sent an email to everyone and suggested we coordinate and discuss what times would be appropriate for all. Ultimately, this served to be a very bold decision but it was one that everyone was able to compromised and effectively resolved. Managers carry a different and more complex burden for ensuring the success of the enterprise than do nonmanagers” (Blanchard, P.N. & Thacker, J. 2013). Answer: It is rightly mentioned that the training and development programs are essential for the organizations to make their human resource more effective. Training and development enables the organizations to develop the desired skills and competences in the employees. It helps in aligning the skills of the people with the goals they are expected to achieve. The training and development programs are must for developing the employees for facing the tough competitive environment at the marketplace. The companies should use such programs strategically to develop their employees as per the direction taken by the company.
The training of the managers is also very important as they manage the organization and the various functions which the employees perform. Training the managers has to be different from that of the other employees as they need to manage people and take decisions. The nature of job performed by the managers is complex and different from that of an ordinary employee. Therefore there should be special training programs for the managers in the organizations.

When Hewlett-Packard’s (HP’s) Services division decided to focus more on external IT consulting, Ron Kempf, the director of project management competency and certification at HP, brought together the firm’s various stakeholders to conduct a needs assessment to determine what type of training would be needed to achieve the new goal. HP’s decision to expand its consulting and integration business meant that 2,500 client-focused project managers and support staff around the world would need to improve their skills. Based on the cost of training and the resources it could provide, ESI International was chosen to train Kempf’s division so employees could achieve the “project management professional” designation. The designation has become a standard in the industry, and clients ask for the certification when requesting project bids. As a result, HP needed its project managers to be certified in order for the company to be competitive. Kempf worked with ESI to provide training in various formats in order to meet the needs of the worldwide workforce. The training methods included using HP’s knowledge management system, networking participants so they could learn from each other, e-learning, self-paced instruction, and formal training conducted at a “project management” university. The training initiative, which has been refined as needed over the years, has been very successful. Kempf credits it with boosting HP’s profit margins and keeping projects within budget.
