As a project manager first I would concentrate on building the right marketing team with enthusiastic people who are interested in delivering excellence to the customers. Once the team is ready to start working, I would ask them about the responsibility they are ready to take and the hat they are willing to wear in the team. In Marketing all the team members should share similar interests because they are targeting the same set of customers. So they need to know the customer needs and how well they can communicate with them effectively. Initially, I would ask them to segment the market based on the market needs and then look for the right channel to deliver the message. The inputs would be the data analysis conducted to study the market. As an input, we can also make use of the tools like Google AdWords and Google Analytics. AdWords will help using creating effective marketing campaigns and we need to input relevant keywords. Google Analytics will help in measuring the effectiveness of the marketing campaigns and how they can improve the campaigns based on the measured results.
The common techniques used are location-based marketing, channel marketing, social media marketing, affiliate marketing, display marketing, and SEM. The choice of the technique depends on the business needs and most of the companies rely on social media marketing, affiliate marketing, and SEM. These techniques promise a high ROI for the company and also help in attracting new customers. Based on the target audience the content for the marketing campaigns will be created. This can content can location specific or customers specific. The content created should tell the message we want to communicate in an effective manner so having a good content team is also very vital for achieving success.
The good management practices would be appointing the right talent for each of the activities mentioned above and also appreciating the good work. People work well when they are in the hands of a good manager. So the manager should be good at judging people and supporting other team members to perform well even when they are not performing up to the mark.
