About- IPMA was founded in Vienna in 1965 as the world’s first project management association. Their original name was the International Management Systems Association (IMSA). The organization then became known as INTERNET (International Network) in 1967, and finally the name was changed to the current International Project Management Association in the early 1970s.
Joe was pleased to see that IPMA offers a wide variety of services in order to help him learn the basics and then develop his potential to excel in the field of project management. IPMA is member-driven and staffed by experienced, dedicated volunteers, ensuring top-notch service at every step of his journey. He was also excited to learn that he would be able to obtain his IPMA certification in the comfort of his own home through web-based services. IPMA is a Federation of about 70 Member Associations (MAs). MAs develop project management competencies in their geographic areas of influence, interacting with thousands of practitioners and developing relationships with corporations, government agencies, universities and colleges, as well as training organizations and consulting companies.
Certificates- The IPMA Four Level Certification (4-L-C) system includes advanced, performance-based certifications for experienced managers as well as an entry level, knowledge-based certification for newcomers. Best of all, you can enter the system based on your current level. These include IPMA Level A (Certified Projects Director), IPMA Level B (Certified Senior Project Manager) or IPMA Level C (Certified Project Manager). These certificates are noteworthy, as the demand from executives, strategic leaders, managers and stakeholders for individuals with demonstrated Project, Programme and Portfolio Management competence spreads globally.

Memberships- Membership in the International Practice Management Association is available to paralegal managers and other practice support managers in law firms, corporations, government, judicial, or legal agencies. Membership is also available to those individuals who may be otherwise involved in practice support management, or who serve as providers of services and products of interest to practice support managers.
As the only association for paralegal managers and other practice support managers, this organization provides a wealth of resources to support the profession. Many of these resources can be found on this website, and to access them, you must be logged in as an IPMA member. council of IPMA Member Associations (MAs) is the ultimate governing body of IPMA, with IPMA serving as a gathering-point for nations. MAs are the prime contacts for all those interested in effective project and programme management, in your country.
Publications- IPMA provides a number of publications, brochures and in-depth information. The IPMA produces publications that provide support for the practice support management profession and insight on the role and value of a paralegal manager or practice support manager to a law firm or corporate law department. Specialized content allows members to hone managerial skills and talents considered necessary to perform specified management-related jobs. IPMA publications provide educational references, support professionalism, encourage effective management skills, and provide thought leadership on the value of utilization and management of paralegals and other legal practice support professionals.

Education- The Education and Training Board (E&T Board) addresses the complex relationships between education, training and employment in professional project management. Although the E&T Board does not directly offer training courses, it assists in the development of resources for use by students and professionals. Education & Training is quite important both for young and seasoned Project Managers as it may contribute significantly to furthering their career prospects. Rookies are looking for basic knowledge and materials to assist in their essential skills development.
